There’s going to be a second remake of Scarface because the world is not yours

There’s dumb and there’s unnecessary. Sometimes you get both.

Here’s one: Antoine Fuqua plans on remaking Scarface for today’s modern audiences. Now, the problem with that idea is that it’s a remake of a remake (see: Howard Hawks’ oft-forgotten 1932 original). But also, nobody — thanks to MTV Cribs or college dormitories or IFC TV — has forgotten about Brian De Palma and Al Pacino’s 1983 cult classic hit.

Alas, Fuqua, hot on the heels of next month’s equally dubious and inessential remake of The Magnificent Seven, plans on taking the tired rags-to-riches story of power and corruption and moving the coked up action from Miami to Los Angeles. Jonathan Herman (Compton) wrote the screenplay, picking up where Paul Attanasio and David Ayer left off.

Universal will distribute the film, which should be as successful as this dinner outing:
