The New York-based Australian singer and producer Nick Murphy has been performing under the moniker Chet Faker for almost the entirety of his successful career. However, he announced last week that he’s shedding the stage name and simply going by what’s on his birth certificate — Nick Murphy — from here on out. He revealed his decision in a Facebook post:
“its been half a decade since I started releasing music as Chet Faker and all of you have been the driving force behind the music since. theres an evolution happening and I wanted to let you know where its going. the next record will be under my own name, Nick Murphy. Chet Faker will always be a part of the music. This is next.”
To show what “next” sounds like, Murphy has debuted a new song entitled “Fear Less”. The electrifying track builds slowly before blowing wide open with a punishing snare beat. It’ll definitely get the bodies moving when Murphy takes his rebranded act on tour in the coming months. In the meantime, he’ll perform all previously announced shows as Chet Faker, including Pitchfork Music Festival Paris.
