This summer, we’ve seen Bay Area pop crooner Francis and the Lights link up with the likes of Chance the Rapper, Frank Ocean, and The Weeknd, as well as enlist Kanye West and Bon Iver for his single “Friends”. However, for their latest offering, titled “See Her Out”, the Francis Starlite-led outfit go it alone and take center stage for themselves.
“Whole damn world is a cage … but that’s just life,” group leader Starlite laments, his Autotune-soaked vocals accompanied by thick synths that blink and slink behind him. By the 2:50 mark, “See Her Out” is a literal synth symphony, strobes and lasers raining down from all corners. There’s near silence for the last 60 seconds, which makes me think it’d be the perfect time for a couple surprise bars from Chance or Yeezy. Maybe on the inevitable remix?
Take a listen below. Update: The song was co-produced by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.
