Tituss Burgess has a pair of Emmy noms under his belt for his portrayal of Titus Andromedon on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Now it looks like he’ll be gunning for a Tony (EGOT, anyone?) with his upcoming musical adaptation of The Preacher’s Wife.

According to EW, the actor/singer has written the music and lyrics for a stage adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1996 comedy film. Daniel Beaty wrote the book while Stafford Arima (Altar Boyz) has been tapped to direct. Burgess acquired the rights some time ago, and the show is already set for an industry presentation on September 12th. That show will star actress and R&B/Soul singer Ledisi and the original film’s Beverly, Loretta Devine.

The Preacher’s Wife starred Whitney Houston in the title role; her husband, played by Courtney B. Vance, is a Harlem reverend who’s more focused on fixing his troubled church community than his wife. He sends a desperate prayer up to heaven, and an angel (Denzel Washington) is sent down in response. Gospel music plays a large role in the film, which received an Oscar nomination for Hans Zimmer’s score.
