Benicio Del Toro drops The Predator, Boyd Holbrook tags in

on October 12, 2016, 10:49am

Well, this news sucks: Benicio Del Toro has walked away from Shane Black’s The Predator.

Only a few weeks ago, we reported that the Academy Award winner had signed on to be hunted by the legendary alien. According to The Hollywood Reporter, though, negotiations didn’t go as planned and he’s since decided not to follow the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny Glover, and Adrien Brody.

That’s okay because they’ve replaced him with Narcos star Boyd Holbrook. Granted, Holbrook is no Del Toro, which is why they’re going to be “beefing up the supporting cast,” as the Reporter notes. So, basically they’ll do what Robert Rodriguez and Nimród Antal did with 2010’s Predators, which tagged everyone from Topher Grace to Walton Goggins.

The good news is that Del Toro is still on board for those Sicario sequels, which is likely the prime reason he had to eject from this action thriller. Regardless, fans should expect to hear some more casting news in the weeks ahead, and if we’re lucky, they’ll grab another cast member from That ’70s Show — maybe Kurtwood Smith?

Hmm, that’s not such a bad idea.
