The studios at SiriusXMU seem to be the place where artists cover the unexpected. In the past, we’ve seen Local Natives cover Beyoncé and Porches take on The Strokes. For a recent session, Dev Hynes of Blood Orange himself made a left-field choice, performing a somber yet beautiful rendition of Philip Glass’ “Metamorphosis III”. We didn’t realize the influential composer was in Hynes’ wheelhouse (and “Metamorphosis V” is my personal fave), but he really does the Solo Piano cut justice.
Check it out up above. Over the weekend, Blood Orange delivered one of the best sets at TIDAL’s benefit concert in Brooklyn. His most recent album, Freetown Sound, is also poised to be one of the best of the year.
