We’ve heard of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but The Old Man and the Gun? Say no more.
Coming off his greatest performance to date with Kenneth Lonergan’s forthcoming Manchester by the Sea, Casey Affleck has signed up to star alongside Robert Redford in this true story drama about a mean son of a bitch named Forrest Tucker.
Tucker’s life was immortalized in a 2003 New Yorker article that captured the man’s exploits as a bank robber and who broke out of prison 18 times, including San Quentin at the age of 70. The film will follow Affleck’s detective obsessing over the guy.
David Lowery, who worked with Redford on Pete’s Dragon this past summer and Affleck on Ain’t Them Bodies Saints back in 2013, will write and direct the project that sounds oddly enough like a mixed sequel to …Sundance Kid and Sneakers.
