Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was a guest on Thursday’s episode of Conan. He appeared in support of his band’s latest album, A Head Full of Dreams, but sans his bandmates. Instead, Martin performed an acoustic solo rendition of the album track “Hymn For the Weekend”. He also sat down with Conan for an interview to discuss topics like Halloween, his hometown, and being a sex symbol.
The biggest highlight, however, came when Martin and Conan sang Coldplay’s “Yellow” in god awful Cockney accents. The impromptu performance came about after Martin revealed that he was cast as the chimney sweep in his high school musical reenactment of My Fair Lady after being told he couldn’t sing. Donning Cockney hats and with their thumbs under their collars, “Reg” and “Ted”‘s performance was absolutely over the top and absolutely perfect. It also called to mind Conan’s great old time baseball sketch, which I am now going to watch on a loop for the remainder of my Friday.
