Oneohtrix Point Never shares eerie new video for “Animals” starring Val Kilmer — watch

Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin has revealed a new music video for “Animals”, a standout taken from last year’s Garden of Delete. Directed by Rick Alverson (The Comedy, Entertainment), the clip stars Val Kilmer, who can seen nodding off while sitting on the side of a bed in an empty bedroom. Between the actor’s drowsy state, the meditative buzz of the track, and Alverson’s neat editing effects, the whole thing manages to somehow conjure an unsettling — even mournful — atmosphere.

I “had been wanting to do something with Rick for a while,” Lopatin said on Twitter. “Got the idea to film Val listening to ‘Animals’. The effect of Rick cutting frames out looks like strobes but it’s actually missing frames. which is how you get that beautiful wiggling.”

The video was work premiered yesterday at the opening of ‘Ecco: The Videos of Oneohtrix Point Never and Related Works’ at Los Angeles’ Hammer Museum. The exhibition runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays through November 19th. Internet users can watch the stream above.

Garden of Delete was one of Consequence of Sound’s (and Father John Misty’s) favorite albums of 2015.
