Suicide Squad extended cut to feature 13 minutes of additional footage

For the most part, Suicide Squad was seen as a poorly paced, tonally flat, loosely plotted failure, despite a “successful” box office with over $739 million. But as Warner Bros. and DC Films seems to have learned from Batman v Superman, nothing fixes a long, boring movie like adding more footage. Fans have generally been kinder to the BvS extended addition released on DVD and Blu-ray, and now WB will look for the same reaction from the home version of SS.

Coming to digital HD on November 11th with a Blu-ray release to follow on December 13th, the Suicide Squad extended cut will add 13 minutes of footage to the film. Jared Leto has previously stated that there was enough Joker footage shot for his own solo film, and there’s a good chance this extended edition will add some of that back in. In fact, the teaser for the release (which can be seen above) hints at scenes we knew about from trailers and set photos that weren’t in the final film, including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) chasing down Joker’s car on a motorcycle and a clip with Joker with a gun to his head.

We’ll see if the “more is better” mentality works for the quality of Suicide Squad, but it certainly won’t hurt padding WB’s coffers. A source previously stated that the movie would have to break $750 million to be a true success for WB/DC Films, and this home release should help it reach that mark.
