Ted Leo covers David Bowie’s “Heroes” for all-ages cover album — listen

on October 14, 2016, 5:40pm

It’s scary and more than a little depressing to think that a child born today will never know a world with David Bowie in it. The titan of glam rock has left an indelible mark on every young generation from the ‘70s onward, and it would be a shame for his legacy to fade just because kids these days lack first-hand exposure.

The forthcoming all-ages Bowie covers album Let All The Children Boogie: A Tribute to David Bowie is out to change that, with contributions from artists including Rhett Miller, The Mekons’ Sally Timms and Jon Langford, and indie multi-instrumentalist Ted Leo. Today, Paste shared Leo’s shimmering cover of “Heroes”, which you can listen to below. With its bouncy bass melody and Leo’s distinctive exuberance, it’s a slightly more children-friendly version of the Bowie classic, which originally appeared on the 1977 album of the same name.

Let All The Children Boogie: A Tribute to David Bowie will be released on November 18th, and proceeds will benefit LGBTQ youth charity organization It Gets Better. Pre-order the album and get an instant free download of Ted Leo’s cover. The complete tracklist is below.
