Ever since Shia LaBeouf went from running through cities being destroyed by alien robots to unpredictable performance artist, it seems like we’re seeing a new side of him every day. There’s the self-critical one, the reluctantly violent one, and even an adventurous one. At a recent stop on Ellen, the unconventional actor unveiled another aspect of his persona: tattooed lover of classic hip-hop and R&B.
While sitting across from him on those big ol’ chairs, Ellen DeGeneres noted that she could see some tattoos peeking out under his shorts. When she asked what they were, LaBeouf stood up and pointed out the “landmarks” inked just above his knees. Bookending identical images of Missy Elliott from the “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” video are depictions of Prince, Dr. Dre, Tupac, and Biggie Smalls. And apparently there are a couple more “higher up,” but LaBeouf had the good sense to know when showing too much would give away the mystique.
Now look, we could joke about the apparent disconnect between the tats and the body on which they’re inked, or scratch our heads as once again LaBeouf presents himself as a different character than the one we’ve always imagined him to be. But frankly, we’ve long known he loves rap, and how can we really fault a guy for paying tribute to true legends?
If anything, you’d think someone who’s been in Hollyweird as long as LaBeouf could afford some better artwork. I know portraits are hard but come on man, that Pac looks like he belongs on Adult Swim.
