Albus Dumbledore will be featured in Fantastic Beasts sequel

on November 07, 2016, 10:50pm

When it was announced last week that the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be the first of a planned five-film cinematic universe, people got to asking the inevitable question: what’s left to tell of the Potterverse that’ll ably constitute another 12-13 hours of filmmaking? Well, today has offered yet another possible answer. Because, yep, we’re talking about reviving dead characters. (Sorry for the hottest spoiler of 2005, everyone.)

David Yates, the director of Fantastic Beasts and probably more installments to come, made mention of the departed Albus Dumbledore’s role in future installments of the new series during the film’s press junket:

“In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt … We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good. [Laughs]”

First off, Richard Harris and Michael Gambon left some pretty notable shoes to fill; though Potter diehards have their own particular visions of the character, it’s Gambon’s in particular that has come to inform the popular vision of the legendary wizard. And since Fantastic Beasts takes place somewhere in the vicinity of 70 years before the books initially pick up, it wouldn’t be hard in the slightest for Yates and Potter deity/newly minted screenwriter J.K. Rowling to return to many of the stories often only seen in flashback in the Potter books.

In any case, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will finally reach theaters, to surely be discussed with no animosity of any kind, on November 18th. And the following installments will come out every two or three years, like everything else you love, until we are all but dust.

Also, let’s just jump into this now: what known actor has the proper gravitas to play the beloved wizard? You tell us.
