Donald Trump says Elton John is playing his inauguration, which is news to Elton John

on November 23, 2016, 11:01am

There are a lot of signs suggesting Donald Trump’s presidency will be an utter shit show. Take his impending inauguration for example: In the span of 24 hours, he invited and uninvited former Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil. Now, his campaign is touting a performance from Sir Elton John — which is news to everybody, including the English musician.

In defending Donald Trump’s gay rights record, Anthony Scaramucci, a member of the presidential inaugural committee, told BBC News that John was set to appear at the inauguration. “And by the way, this’ll be the first American president in U.S. history that enters the White House with a pro-gay rights stance,” Scaramucci said, adding, “Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the mall for the inauguration.”

The only problem? None of this is true. “Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration,” a representative for the musician told the New York Post.

While it’s true Trump and John were once close friends, the two haven’t seen eye to eye in some time. During the campaign, John was a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton. He forbade Trump from playing his music at campaign events, and even called him “a barbarian.” For his part, Trump defied John’s wishes and frequently played his songs “Tiny Dancer” and “Rocket Man” on the trail.

The good news for Trump is Ted Nugent and DJ Rick Perry are still available to play his inauguration.
