Pink Floyd chronicle their beginnings with The Early Years 1965-1972: Stream

on November 11, 2016, 12:35pm

Today marks the release of a new Pink Floyd box set chronicling some of the most signifcant moments of the band’s “early years.” Aptly titled The Early Years 1965-1972it boasts studio outtakes, remixes, and B-sides as well as recordings of radio sessions and live performances. Altogether the whopping 27-disc (!) bundle covers 11 hours worth of audio and 14 hours worth of video.

In particular, there are seven hours of previously unheard audio. Among the goodies are tracks with Syd Barrett dating back to 1967 (“Vegetable Man” and “The Beechwoods”) and a 1967 session with John Latham for a never-released short film called Speak. Unreleased recordings from the band’s Zabriskie Point soundtrack and a new remix of 1972’s Obscured By Clouds are also included.

Of the visual footage, there’s film of Pink Floyd performing “Moonhead” played live on BBC television during the 1969 moon landing and a generous helping of rarely seen concert footage.

The massive box set can be purchased here for a hefty price tag of $550.00. Below, the slimmed-down 2CD edition is available for streaming.
