A terror attack at a popular Istanbul night club left at least 39 people dead and 69 others injured, according to BBC News.
The attack occurred at Reina, a dance club and restaurant located on the banks of the Bosphorus strait. Described as “one of the most trendy clubs in Istanbul,” the “large waterside complex” boasts huge dance floors and chic eateries. On a typical night, the club hosts several hundred guests and is a popular hot spot for celebrities visiting Turkey.
According to Turkey’s prime minister, the gunman entered the club shortly after Midnight local time. Some club goers sought escape by jumping into the frigid waters of the Bosphorus and had to be rescued by emergency personnel. The gunman remains at large as of Sunday.
Tonight’s incident at Reina is the latest in a string of terror attacks specifically targeting music/night clubs. In November 2015, terrorists attacked Paris music venue Bataclan during an Eagles of Death Metal concert, leaving 89 people dead. A subsequent terror attack at Miami’s Pulse Nighclub in June 2016 took the lives of 49 people.
