2017 Golden Globe Winners: The Complete List

The 2017 Golden Globe Awards were held Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Now in its 74th year, the Golden Globes honor the best in film and television.

La La Land set a new Globes record by winning all seven of its nominations, including Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical. Co-stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone took home both best acting nods in Comedy. Director Damien Chazelle won both Best Director and Screenplay. Justin Hurtwitz won Best Original Score for La La Land. And yes, the film naturally claimed Best Original Song for “City of Stars”.

Despite being shut out from five of its six nominations, Barry Jenkins’ coming-of-age drama Moonlight won Best Motion Picture, Drama.

Casey Affleck won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for Manchester by the Sea, beating Joel Edgerton, Denzel Washington, Andrew Garfield, and Viggo Mortensen. In a very surprising and admirable left turn, Isabelle Huppert won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for Paul Verhoeven’s controversial thriller Elle, edging out Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, and Ruth Negga.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson won Best Supporting Actor for his villainous turn in Nocturnal Animals, beating out Mahershala Ali, Jeff Bridges, Dev Patel, and Simon Helberg. While Viola Davis won Best Supporting Actress for her iconic role in Fences, conquering a tough, tough category that included Naomie Harris, Nicole Kidman, Octavia Spencer, and Michelle Williams.

Zootopia won Best Animated Film over Kubo and the Two Strings, My Life As A Zucchini, Moana, and Sing. While Elle won Best Foreign Film over DivinesNeruda, The Salesman, and Tony Erdmann.

On the TV front, Donald Glover’s FX critical juggernaut Atlanta won Best Comedy Series over Black-ish, Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent, and Veep. While The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won Best TV Miniseries or Movie, toppling over The Night Of, The Night Manager, and The Dresser. While Netflix’s The Crown won Best TV Series, Drama over Westworld, Stranger Things, This Is Us, and Game of Thrones.

AMC’s mini-series The Night Manager also had a great night: Tom Hiddleston won Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Miniseries or Movie, Hugh Laurie won Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in TV, and Olivia Colman snagged Best Performance by Supporting Actress.

Billy Bob Thornton won Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series, Drama for his work on Amazon’s Goliath, toppling over stiff competition by Rami Malek, Matthew Rhys, Bob Odenkirk, and Liev Shrieber. While Claire Foy won Best Performance by an Actress in TV Series, Drama for The Crown, beating Evan Rachel Wood, Caitriona Balfe, Keri Russell, and Winona Ryder.

Donald Glover won Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series, Comedy for Atlanta, tackling Anthony Anderson, Gael Garcia Bernal, Jeffrey Tambor, and Nick Nolte. While Tracy Ellis Ross won Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Comedy for ABC’s Black-ish, beating Rachel Bloom, Sarah Jessica Parker, Issa Rae, Gina Rodriguez, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

As expected, Sarah Paulson won Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Miniseries or Movie for her excellent role as Marcia Clark in FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, winning over Felicity Huffman, Kerry Washington, Riley Keough, and Charlotte Rampling.
