Cage the Elephant are asylum-bound in new video for “Cold Cold Cold” — watch

on January 12, 2017, 12:25pm

Earlier this week, Cage the Elephant performed “Cold Cold Cold” on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Today, they’re supporting the same Tell Me I’m Pretty single with a new music video, directed by the band’s own Matt Shultz.

Set in a creepy asylum, the clip (above) finds a straitjacketed man subjected to a number of experiments, including mysterious drug injections and bizarre rituals, as a masked crowd looks on. The Kentucky rockers can also be seen performing elsewhere in the building, Shultz leading the way with his best Mick Jagger impression.

“I think we’re all very prone to subscribe to a safe, surface level pursuit of happiness, keeping our adversities out of sight out of mind, in a way,” Shultz told Rolling Stone of the video’s dark tone. “We try to fix ourselves to fit into the social norm, and it is so easy to forget that in one way or another, the broken hearted are the beautiful ones.”

Cage the Elephant are scheduled to hit up a bunch of 2017 music festivals, including Boston Calling, Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, Shaky Knees in Atlanta, and Lollapalooza Brazil. Find their full itinerary here.
