The Simpsons to air hip-hop-centric episode this Sunday, featuring Snoop Dogg, RZA, more

on January 10, 2017, 12:05am

Avid Simpsons fans will no doubt remember the time Homer once famously fronted the ’90s grunge band Sadgasm (you might know of their hit song “Margerine”). Now, it looks like the bumbling family man will be venturing into the world of hip-hop in the program’s first-ever hour-long episode.

Set to air this Sunday on FOX, “The Great Phatsby” will see Homer — described as “rap’s new king” — and wealthy power plant boss Mr. Burns befriend a hip-hop mogul. Elements of the smash musical drama Empire and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic The Great Gatsby serve as inspiration for the episode, according to USA Today.

The long-running TV show will also welcome a handful of special guests to Springfield, including Empire’s own Taraj P. Henson (who is set to portray the mogul’s ex-lover) and Key & Peele’s Keegan-Michael Key (who’s been tapped to play a scheming rapper). Keeping with the hip-hop theme, veterans in the game such as Snoop Dogg, RZA, and Common all make cameos.
