Jason Petros - Staff Writer

Jason has a problem. He can’t listen to music without judging it. It’s an issue that has gotten him into long arguments lasting for days, and, if started when drinking, weeks on end. He likes a scotch that’s old enough to order its own scotch. He likes to talk about EQ, compression, and tape delays. He gets angry when people say music “just isn’t the same as it used to be, man.” He consistently ponders how serendipitous is.

He’s also the Founder of Chicago’s Independent Music Review — one of the only local sites dedicated solely to Independent local music. He contributes to Seizure Chicken. He earned a degree in English from a small liberal arts school near the Mars Cheese Castle. He is 25 years old. He refuses to be boxed in, making it hard to play fort.

He has a hard time concentrating if there isn’t a melody involved. He plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and programs drums, and is constantly trying to get better. He has a nine to five, but on Fridays and Saturdays he tries to convince his friends to see bands they’ve never heard of, and failing that, standing, arms crossed, alone, staring intently at the stage while taking impeccable mental notes.
