Senior Staff Writer
Philip Cosores has been a fan of rock and roll since the days of playing GI Joe and listening to Slippery When Wet. And while early forays into the underappreciated catalogs of Richard Marx and Bryan Adams never quite panned out, Philip stayed on constant alert for the next big thing - whether that be the cutting-edge sounds of the Spin Doctors, the ever-enduring anthems of the Gin Blossoms or the timeless tunes from the band responsible for showing him his first live concert: Counting Crows (with special guest Dog's Eye View, no less).
Then one day, on a trip to visit a friend in Houston, Philip went to a record store and purchased two albums, basing his decision on little clips he had seen on MTV. These were Radiohead's OK Computer and Pavement's Brighten the Corners. From then on, everything was different.
14 years later, Philip received the opportunity to write about music for Consequence of Sound. What happened between Houston and now? Philip earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from UC Santa Cruz, spent many years bartending, completed an internship with Liquid Generation, and sweats a current career in advertising copywriting. Not to mention brief stints as a school uniform salesperson, a candy store manager, mall incense cart clerk, espresso barista, the guy at the school dining hall who swipes your meal card, graveyard dishwasher, usher, busboy, the guy at conventions who watches the door to make sure no one is sneaking in, bookstore attendant, and the guy in the dorms who sells cigarettes for a markup so as to be able to smoke for free. But writing for CoS tops all of these.
Philip currently lives in Garden Grove, California. He is 27, a cancer, and the owner of a small dog named Tumbleweed.
