Tony Hardy

Tony Hardy lives in Kingston upon Thames, just south-west of London, England. His has worked in sales and marketing, on both client and agency sides. He graduated from Exeter University in 1976 and majored in Medieval English Literature, a subject that equipped him perfectly for his first job as a Sales Rep for the erstwhile Milk Marketing Board! Today he has a business called Fifty3 and combines brand marketing with copywriting and music interests. He could be the oldest writer on CoS but don’t let that worry you. Tony’s great passion in life is music. Nothing gives him more pleasure than unearthing good, original new music and championing independent musicians. He has a weakness for female singer-songwriters, with Kate Walsh, Ingrid Michaelson, Laura Marling, Daughter, Kathleen Edwards and the late Sandy Denny at the top of his tree. Tony is a great supporter of unsigned bands and includes UK acts, Revere, Morton Valence, Gabby Young & Other Animals, Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo, The Mayflys, Big Tent & The Gypsy Lantern, Bridie Jackson & The Arbour, The Daydream Club, Port Isla plus singer-songwriters Andrew Morris and Ella Janes among his favourites. Tony plays bass in a local covers band and barn dance band, and claims to be learning to play the banjo. Outside of music, Tony’s interests are his family and friends, writing, travel, football, cricket, F1, horse racing and fantasy sport. Favorite artists: those listed above plus Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Bat for Lashes, Midlake, Richard Hawley, Yes, Summer Camp, Ben Howard, Fleet Foxes, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, Kodaline, Vampire Weekend, The Civil Wars, Belle & Sebastian, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, Beth Orton, Doves, Lanterns on the Lake, Cosmo Jarvis, Family of the Year, The Low Anthem, Robyn Hitchcock, The Incredible String Band.
