In support of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, The Flaming Lips have re-written the iconic “Race For The Prize” (off 1999′s The Soft Bulletin) into a team fight song. After taking to Twitter yesterday to gather fan-submitted lyrics, the band put “Thunder Up: Racing For The Prize” to archive footage of the team in action. Last night, Beyoncé performed her first concert since giving birth to her daughter Blue Ivy Carter in January 2012. Appearing at the brand-new Revel Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, the singer ran through a two-hour set career-spanning set comprised of solo cuts, Destiny’s Child classics, and covers of the late Whitney Houston (“I Will Always Love You”) and Donna Summer (“Love To Love You Baby”). Jay-Z walked away impressed.

During a benefit concert at Seattle’s Showbox Theatre last night, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready reunited with ex-Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin to perform Mad Season’s single “River of Deceit” alongside vocalist Jeff Rouse (Loaded) and bassist Rick Friel. It’s tough calling it a reunion, especially when both Layne Staley and John Baker Saunders have long passed, but it’s the best they can do.

As Antiquiet reports, McCready and Martin could be sitting on “a good deal of material already written that simply needs vocals.” With so many fractured acts returning to the stage (e.g. Blind Melon, Sublime with Rome, and Alice in Chains), perhaps Mad Season is another collective to add to the fold. We’ll see. In the meantime, check out the band’s cut from last night below (via Guerrilla Candy).

’90s alt-rock icons Garbage dropped their first album in seven years, Not Your Kind of People, just last week. Now, they’re returning to New York for their first Big Apple performance in just as long. Thanks to MTV Hive, you won’t have to sneak into the sold out Webster Hall to catch the show, as they’ll be streaming it as part of their Live In NYC concert series. Beginning at 9 PM EST, you can watch the whole thing below.

Cerebral pop-punk outfit The Gaslight Anthem kicks off a lengthy summer tour in support of their upcoming fourth album, Handwritten, with a live webcast tonight at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg. Starting at 9 PM EST, you can watch the performance over at the band’s Livestream page.

In June, IFC will premiere Comedy Bang! Bang!, a “spontaneously surreal talk show” hosted by comedian Scott Aukerman (who runs the eponymous podcast). And like all great late-night ventures before it, the show has found its own compelling house band, this time in the form of musical comedian Reggie Watts. Watts has wasted little time in his new role, generating true groundswell for the show by teaming with Mad Men’s Jon Hamm for a musical ode to Taxi.

While Watts supplies the usual looped beats, Hamm busts a mean flow (read: repeating character names with various accents and inflections) like a dapper Vanilla Ice. It may be the sheer comedic potential or Hamm’s piercing blue eyes, but we think TV Land needs a steady diet of Wamm. Watch the replay below (via Antiquiet).

Comedy Bang! Bang! premieres on June 8th at 10 p.m. EST.

Although Late Night with Jimmy Fallon records from 30 Rock in New York City, last night’s episode was awash in West coast vibes, all thanks to The Beach Boys, or more specifically: Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks, and Bruce Johnston. Because it was such a special occasion, Fallon wasted little time in the hour slot, introducing the California legends prior to the show’s traditional launch, to which they strummed straight into a note-for-note cut of Wilson’s classic lullaby, “In My Room”.

Later on, Love and Wilson chatted with Fallon, discussing the band’s legacy, harmonies, Elvis Presley, and their forthcoming reunion LP, That’s Why God Made the Radio. To cap off the night, Love and Wilson rejoined the band for a performance of the new album’s titular track and the Pet Sounds opening hit “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”. Check it all out below.

Last year, Dhani Harrison and thenewno2 experimented with “hip-hop beats, spacey atmospheres, and guest appearances” on their EP002. It looks as if some of those ideas have carried over onto their newly announced sophomore LP, thefearofmissingout, due out July 31st on H.O.T. Records Ltd.

Produced by the Harrison and Paul Hicks under their pHd moniker, the record blends programmed and live instrumentation with “obscure samples to create an intricate collage of electronica sounds,” according to a press release. And as with the previous release, the LP comes chock full of big name guests, including RZA, who was featured on the EP002 cut “Mr. President”, The Black Knights, and Harrison’s Fistful of Mercy compatriot Ben Harper.

At last night’s show at the O2 Brixton Academy, Foster the People and The Kooks’ Luke Pritchard marked the end of their UK tour with a cover of the Alabama Shakes’ “Hold On”. The ensemble did their best to recreate the original’s dark, lonesome blues vibe, although Pritchard’s voice doesn’t have quite the soul-shaking depth as Brittany Howard does. Even still, it was a substantial enough moment to turn the venue into a giant choral sing-along if only for a few minutes. Watch the video below.

Ryan Adams will release an iTunes Session EP on April 24th via EMI. Recorded earlier this year at the historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood, the eight-track effort features cuts from across Adams’ career, including the Whiskeytown-era “Houses On The Hill” and “Lucky Now”, from last year’s Ashes & Fire. The EP also features Adams’ cover of Bob Mould’s “Black Sheets of Rain”, which he first performed at last year’s Mould tribute concert. Sadly, his Passions theme song cover wasn’t cleared by NBC.

One of our Top Live Acts of 2011, Tinariwen continues to live up to that illustrious title with a new video from their September performance at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theater, in which the band was joined onstage by members of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea and Josh Klinghoffer rocked out alongside the African desert bluesmen for “Cler Achel”, a cut off Tinariwen’s 2007 LP Aman Iman. Watch the clash of the titans below (via RollingStone.com).

Tinariwen will deliver more live performances this summer when they play a string of North American tour dates in June and several European shows with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in July.

Hot Chip has released an in-studio video for “Flutes”, the first song to surface from the band’s upcoming fifth album In Our Heads. This year marks the 100th birthday of folk singer-songwriter icon Woody Guthrie, and a multitude of artists have been honoring the late musician’s legacy. Last weekend, the This Land Is Your Land tribute concert went down in Tulsa, OK. Oklahoma natives The Flaming Lips were part of the festivities, reinterpreting Guthrie songs on their new favorite instruments: iPads. Jackson Browne joined in, lending his guitar and voice to “Along in the Sun and the Rain”. Last year, rising Chicago blues artist Willis Earl Beal threw the fate of his career at the feet of the reality TV gods by auditioning for Simon Cowell’s The X Factor. After making it past the first round, Beal was cut during the bootcamp phase, but not before being interviewed by the show.

In the recently-surfaced clip (via Pitchfork), Beal shares his thoughts on what he would’ve done had he won (“If I win the money, I’ll have changed the way people think about these sorts of singing competitions. It’s not just fluff”) and dealing with competition (“If you focus on what it is you’re good at, what your strengths are, then you don’t have to regard everyone else as being your competitor”). And to think, Beal could’ve been right up there with the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken.

Will Oldham (aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy) has teamed up with Glaswegian folk outfit Trembling Bells to release a collaborative LP entitled The Marble Downs. Due for release on April 9th via Damon Albarn’s imprint Honest Jon’s, the 10-track efort highlights a “sense of a common vocabulary and identity being forged” by Oldham and the Bells, according to a press release.

Ahead of the album’s release, the Oldham-Bells combo is putting out an eight-track EP entitled Duchess, comprised of outtakes and a cover of Scott Walker’s song of the same name. You can stream it now at Honest Jon’s site.

The Shins delivered an intimate pre-Saturday Night Live performance at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge last night, which was streamed live to users of NPR’s iPad app. Non-iPad owners can now watch the replay below. Radiohead appeared in Dallas on Monday night, and for the third time in their tour’s short history, the band performed a new song. Originally debuted by Thom Yorke’s super group Atoms for Peace in 2009, “Skirting on the Surface” now joins Radiohead’s other two recently premiered tracks “Identikit” and “Cut A Hole”.

In addition, the Dallas setlist featured the first-ever performance of the “Pyramid Song” b-side “The Amazing Sounds of Orgy”. Find live footage of both performances below.

With Lindsay Lohan serving as host cue card reader, Jack White’s first-ever solo performance proved the lone highlight on last night’s Saturday Night Live. Accompanied by a different backing band for each (the first featuring an all-female ensemble, the second an all-male), White showcased two tracks from the forthcoming Blunderbuss, the lead single “Love Interruption” and the ferocious, previously unheard  ”Sixteen Saltines”. With The Shins’ long-awaited fourth LP, Port of Morrow, now less than three weeks away, the band is back with another preview. Port of Morrow official arrives March 20th via Columbia Records and frontman James Mercer’s own Aural Apothecary imprint.

Jimmy Fallon’s week-long ode to Bruce Springsteen continued last night with a unique performance by Elvis Costello. With support from The Roots, Costello offered his own spin on “Brilliant Disguise”, one of the more popular tracks off Springsteen’s 1987 LP, Tunnel of Love, by injecting some of his trademark English soul into the original self-defeating Jersey confession-turned-ballad. It’s at a slower pace, but it doesn’t burn as much. Also, for a web-only exclusive, Costello reworked past live favorite ”Fire”, which originally came to fruition in the tumultuous post-Born to Run sessions and finally found a home on 2010′s The Promise. The Shins frontman James Mercer is no stranger to comedy. After all, the soft crooner did appear in Portlandia‘s first season, and admirably so if we may add. Now, he returns to tickle our funny bones with a short clip for Funny or Die. Judging from the clip here, it appears Mercer ran into some problems while recording the clap track to ”Simple Song”, the latest single off the band’s upcoming fourth LP, Port of Morrow. It’s a good thing he found the perfect remedy, though. Take a gander below.

Given his current track record in the comedy genre, perhaps Mercer will appear on some skits during the band’s Saturday Night Live appearance on March 10th. Stay tuned.

On Wednesday night, Swedish hardcore punk rockers Refused performed for the first time in 14 years at a secret show in their hometown of Umeå. Appropriately, the band hammered out a 14-song set, and you can watch fan footage of “Everlasting” and Rather Be Dead” below (via Antiquet).

Refused is scheduled to hit the U.S in April for an appearance at Coachella and headlining shows in San Francisco and New York City. Afterward, they’ll return to Europe for a summer full of performances. Check out the band’s full itinerary below.

Last December, UK goth-rockers The Horrors visited London’s well-noted rock venue The Garage. The performance was filmed for Fred Perry’s Subculture video series, and you can watch the outfit deliver Skying’s ”Chasing The Rain” below.

With tight shots of the band bathed in electric-colored lights and wider cuts to the jam-packed audience, the clip purveys a sense of intimacy, as if you may already be stepping on someone’s toes. The choice of venue, a step down in capacity from the band’s recent shows, also gives the track’s ambient tinge a new set of dimensions to move and bellow in.
