Thank You RF! Finally someone else who sees that this is not that good of an idea. We basically know the lineup already, now we get to see the names (we already know) coming out slowly one by one. It will just take people longer to get off the fence, also looking at the lineup as a whole helps to give the festival an identity. I know if I tuned in for a couple hours and saw 4 or 5 lower tier or not-so-interesting (to me) bands, it would give off a bad first impression.
Ok.. uh.. Make ‘em wait a week. And then make ‘em wait another half a day. Oh, and let’s give out the details bit by bit. Not to mention the weak “leaked lineup” is looking a lot like it will be the real lineup. Not looking good.

I feel you bud. Let me tell you though, I’ve been listening to STS9 for about 7 or so years now. I’ve never purchased one CD or even really listen to their recorded stuff when I’m at home but once you hear them live, feel their vibe and see the smiles on all the peoples faces, you’ll love them. And their drummer is a machine up there… absolutely amazing musician. Anytime they come to Chicago, I’m there. I recommend that you give a try live and you may change your opinion.

Sorry to rehash the old Kings of Leon debate but, I was just over at the ACL schedule page. If you put your cursor over a band it shows how many people are planning on going to see a band. KOL had the largest number 30,000. Ten Thousand more than an unoppossed Pearl Jam and 6 thousand more than DMB.

I think it’s a good possibility that we see Jim James perform w/ MMJ, MOF and superjam this summer. I would also expect to see some extra instruments playing w/ MMJ. That a lot of Yim Yames but I’ll take it!

I don’t want to crush anyone’s dreams, but they’re updating a lot of artist’s profiles on their website. The “hangover” picture came up when I clicked on Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen’s, and we all know that they won’t be back (as much as I’d like). So I don’t think that really means anything.

the bands who played recently on bonnaroo still have their profiles updated like phish, wilco,al green,phoenix and many more. i dont think you should be thinking that bands who played last year will be ther this year like phoenix just because their profile is still updated from last year.
BSS and Wolfmother only have players, but no twitter feed or videos. The same is true for Tiesto, Pearl Jam, and Jack Johnson. I think they need a twitter feed and/or video to be likely for a return in 2010. A lot of the acts listed above fit that criteria.
I could be completely wrong with what i just posted though.

Pearl Jam also has a player link, but no twitter feed. Wolfmother is the same way. Considering Wolfmother is unlikely to be there because of Download in Donnington and Pearl Jam just headlined in 2008, these should be taken with a grain of salt.
It would def be cool to see it announced as it was happening like in one day announce the bands in the time slots as if it was happening…for instance if ur starting at 12pm u list the bands that are playing the early slot. so thatd be like i dunno 10 bands or so between fri-sun
so like round 8 pm u get headliners and then at 12am they announce late nite acts

Though I would like to see the entire lineup, I agree with you Hike. This will be good in helping create the schedule and also help the festival create lineups and schedules in the future. Animal Collective needed more than a night slot to save their music last year at roo. Hehe

So I was chatting with my GF and we discussed the new way Bonnaroo will be releasing there lineup. This is what we came up with, and if I may say so myself, its very logical and smart.
The new way of releasing the lineup is three fold.
1st off the new ‘Chatterbox’, the blogging after a artiest is released will be a way that Bonnaroo surveys the type of artiest, and will be applied to decision making for 2011+ lineups.
2nd we think that the Bonnaroo people will take what they gathered from all the comments and use that to make he time schedule. For example, in 2009 they put Animal Collective in the middle of the day, and I don’t think they really understood that they needed to be a night show.
And thirdly, the most obvious reason to get do release them a few artiest at a time is to get people on there edge of there seats all damn day and get hype.

Yes in the interview he was saying he will do the Flaming Lips set and then around 2:30am he will do the DSOTM set.

Manchester Orchestra has an updated bio on the Bonnaroo website. I don’t think that’s a guarantee they’ll play this year, but it seems likely.

Most major touring acts with stage productions will have two and sometimes three full stage set ups. This allows for gigs to be played in short turn around between cities.
I am not doubting Jay Z will be there but it sure does take a whole lot more to transport your band, giant projection screens, and I am sure a whole lot more equipment to the Roo from there than just making a couple of spontaneous guest appearances.

If you’re looking to be as accurate as possible by the time the lineup drops, you should move Caravan Palace to “rumored”. The source you’re using says they’ll be at festivals LIKE Coachella and Bonnaroo and they were already wrong about Coachella (as least as far as the initial lineup release goes). If that’s the only thing you’re going on, I think it puts them in the rumored category.
I know this is a tiny issue, but like I said, the fewer misses you have in the expected category come Tuesday, the better.
Even though that lineup poster is fake, it still got me excited. If a 1/4 of it is correct im there.

Tom wants to simply listen to music, and this is beautiful. Most of us here do it, typically with a stereo or headphones.
But a concert is a different beast; it’s a fucking experience.
You paid money to experience a group of musicians, and the more rare the performance is, the more unique your personal experience was. Evidently, Tom isn’t a fan of things like improvisation and guest appearances; which bring out the best in both the crowd and the performer.
Without this variety, seeing a concert wouldn’t be an event, it would be like seeing a movie. I could have seen The Dark Knight in LA or NYC, and I’d have seen the same damn(awesome) thing.
Worth Noting: Jay-Z will do plenty of improvisation and guest appearances when he plays the largest crowd of his career on US soil.
That is untrue. You could not listen to the same exact thing over and over, live or at home, and not become tired and maybe even irritated by it. It would be funny to see someone locked in a room with their favorite most soothing music playing over and over. They would not like it after that, even if they volunteered.

That is exactly why Waters doesnt play that often. He keeps it a rare experience. It is just a fact that people tire of things, regardless if its album to album or tour stop to tour stop. No one can say that they would not grow tired of doing or hearing the same thing over and over. His show could be flawless, but doing the same trick at every stop will eventually became tiring.
So Tom, you would be fine listening to the same musical set over and over, and you think you can honestly say that the 10th time you hear it would be as good as the first?
If the music is worthwhile, then its worthwhile if he plays 1 show a year, or 300 shows a year.

“Rarity” and “Exclusivity” do not make a performance good or excited. Good music, quality execution, and stage presence make a good performance.
Just because a band plays the same show in a different location does not mean the performance you attend is any worse.
If all you care about is exclusivity, then I pity you. You should learn to appreciate the music for the music, and not how many people have or have not heard it.
Though I would be stoked to see Jay-Z, he is playing every (exaggeration) festival this summer in the US and Europe, making his Bonnaroo show a little less intriguing. Hopefully he makes every show different otherwise it’s not that big a deal that he’s there. Should someone who is headlining Coachella headline bonroo as well? Rarity of performance adds to excitement and appreciation, I hope its not the same set at every festy.

The Festy said it hoped to, “generate conversations about the lineup a few acts at a time,” hasn’t this website, and I’m sure others like it, generated enough conversation? We have been talking about the lineup for the last 8 months, and the last couple of months we have had a pretty good idea of the bands. Names like Jay-Z, KOL, Neil Young, DMB, and the Lips have been discussed for a good two months, what kind of change in the conversations will there be when these bands are confirmed? We already knew about them and have been talking about them. And if they release lower tier bands early people might loose interest. Fact is we have already conversed about every band imaginable, now we want to have conversations about having tickets and, what our camp site will look like or how many of those greasy arepas we will devour!
Yeah, having 20,000 tickets sold by noon or, 5,000 tickets sold by 10pm with thousands more on the fence? What kind of hype do they think people will create with 5 bands announced? Also they will probably not release the whole lineup, so the first 30 or so names shown individually for 12 hours seems like it would piss the people off who want to know the bulk of the lineup before they purchase boletos. Why go away from a proven hype building ticket selling method? Actually, if it helps keep the crowd down in the slightest, I’m for it. hehe
Also just give us the lineup, why would you release it little by little? Sure it might help with anticipation, but it will only take people longer to decide whether the lineup is what they want or not. It makes no sense to do this, they could have the first round lineup out, with 5,000-10,000 tickets sold, and another 10,000- 20,000 people sold on the lineup just waiting for lay away or one more paycheck. The lineup is the main seller, but the anticipation and the word through the grapevine might be just as effective.
No need to remind me about the efficiency of modern travel, but, Jay-Z is playing Rock am Ring in Germany the week before roo and Isle of Wight in England the week after, making him a doubt for bonroo, but I’m sure all doubts will be washed away by the hoards of hopeful hova fans, who hang on to helicopter rides and time changes.
It will probably start around 10am EST and run through 10pm EST. But I would not be surprised to see some after Midnight leaks.
They are now called Sublime with Rome. They settled the legal dispute a few days ago by adding the with Rome. Sad. But at least it is over and they can finally tour already. But as for being at the farm. Not this year. Im sure they will do their own headlining tour first.

Ya know, with all these names of older musicians (ie stevie wonder, neil young, roger waters, paul simon) my parents might actually think the lineup sounds cool this year, and that just does not seem very appealing. I’ve been to Bonnaroo the past three years but the one thing I’ve noticed that Coachella always one ups Roo on is its electronic lineups. Last year Coachella had Steve Aoki, Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Chemical Brothers, Drop the Lime, and Etienne de Crecy. Bonnaroo gives us acts like Paul Oakenfold and Tiesto which dont really represent contemporary dance music.
Some of my best memories are from Roo, but I dont think they’ll be getting my $300 this year. You’ll probably catch me at camp bisco, all good, or mountain jam. have fun gettin ripped off on all your goodies

I don’t want to sound like one of those people who come on here and bash bands, but, I just listened to all four Kings of Leon albums. I have never heard any of their music before, and it is terrible guys. I don’t understand how bands make it big using rhythms, lyrics, and ideas, that have been used over and over again for the last 30 plus years. The early stuff is basic rock no innovation in lyrics or music, and the more recent stuff if tween directed pop music. I guess one can never underestimate the buying power of females aged 15-30. Someone tell me honestly why they think KOL should headline.

Good Lord. Listen, Daft Punk is very popular. Waters and McCartney are more popular, and have sold many, many more records.
No matter what, Daft Punk is a #1-#4 act, depending on the other acts on the bill. You can debate album sales and what-not, but what matters is what sells tickets. Bands like DMB are playing everywhere on the damn planet in 2010, and I’m sure people will enjoy the show, but if you fall asleep, you can catch them 5 other times this summer within 300 miles of your home.
Daft Punk tours a few times per decade, playing a handful of shows per continent. And they melt faces off every time.
Whether or not they are number one comes down to who else is on the bill. Daft Punk is huge, but when it comes to ticket sales, nothing is bigger than the fucking Beatles, save for a Zep reunion. McCartney hasn’t been #2 on a bill in nearly half a century. No matter what, when DP play Bonnaroo in the next decade, they will play the main stage on a Friday or Saturday after dark. You will tell your children about it, with key details omitted.

(tool at bonnaroo apc at voodoofest. i was bored out of my mind during tool. i kind of enjoyed apc. i have tried to “get” tool. for some reason, they just don’t do it for me, like they do almost everyone i know. i have listened to their albums, and when i saw them live, i thought maybe i would finally like them. it just didn’t happen. i’m not hating on them though. obviously, they are doing something right. they have a huge following. so, maybe there’s just something wrong with me. oh well, to each his own. if tool or apc are at bonnaroo, i won’t bitch because flips playing dsom is already enought to get me there.

One - I’m not saying who’s music is better. Just want to make that clear. We all have different tastes and that’s good.
Two - Daft punk first release was in 1994 and it took them 3 years to get their Homework LP out. I’m not to sure when shpongled started to put stuff together and I’m glad they don’t sound the same. That said, DP laid the ground work electronic music to be considered acceptable entertainment and music. A music lover should be able to respect that.
Three - Vegoose didn’t shut their doors because of DP. They closed because it wasn’t crowd friendly as once you got in the venue you were stuck. If they let people come and go like ‘Roo and Lolla, they would have seen a better turn out. Plus it’s in Vegas… not the greatest place for a festival in my book. Way too many distractions and other things people would rather do. Finally, I believe they did a poor job putting the line up together in 2007. The bands were good but each genre was spread way to thin. So you didn’t get huge crowds from the fan base of each genre because there wasn’t enough there to make them come to Vegas.

I understand your thinking about APC. I was not a fan of Tool before Roo either and they put on the fourth best show I’ve seent here (Radiohead ‘06, MMJ ‘06, STS9 ‘07… I missed ‘08 altogether unfortunately). But afterward, I was completely a changed man. Keep an open mind for a totally singular style of music and a killer light show, if they show up… which I think they won’t.

Daft Punk cost 750,000 to play Coachella and then got even more super famous on their 2 year tour. DMB and PMac were paid 2 mil a piece to play 10k and Coachella respectivly. No way all of them are playing the same festiroo

@Hlke - Come on. You can’t point out one song and claim the band is a metal band. That was their single intended to appeal to Tool fans. If you listen to any other APC stuff you’ll realize that. Besides, Bonnaroo has had plenty of metal acts play.
APC isn’t a metal band - they’re a hard rock/alternative band. Sometimes they can creep into TOOL territory, which is .. sort of metal.
@Hike: A Perfect Circle set would not kill or be the downfall of your precious festival. Last year Nine Inch Nails kicked a lot of ass and everyone’s still here. Dillinger Escape Plan? Not everyone wants to jam out, and I can’t get all the way to California for Coachella, so I’m hoping there’s something a little heavy again. This festival is for everyone.

A Flaming Lips show coupled with them performing DSOTM is simply mindblowing and incredible. I saw it on New Year’s Eve, and it was just outstanding. So just revel in this little early gift (and Paul Simon!!), especially since they originally planned on doing DSOTM only once on NYE, and just enjoy the rest of your week. The rest will fall into place.

Ed, I’m really hoping the flips will be playing Thursday because that will be the best possible time for me to get up front as soon as centeroo opens thursday and wait for the epicness that will be Wayne and the gang. I’m also thinking that this could be the perfect opportunity for roo to open the what stage on the first thursday in the history of the fest. Everything is of course speculation. I was the same way, before Bonnaroo 08 everyone was telling me I needed to see MMJ. I listened to a few songs, and was seriously wondering why everyone was talking about them. After seeing that performance, I made it to a few more stops on their tour and they are by far my fav band that is out right now! MMJ makes me so happy!
And btw, I saw the Lips do dark side on New Years…way exceeded my expectations.
I am still in question whether or not this means there will be no midnight release.

I didnt like MMJ @ all, heard a couple of studio albums and just wasn’t feelin it…than I saw them @ Bonnaroo 2008 & @ MSG New Years EVE..long story short, i have about 10 bootleg cds, and currently the Onkonkomos dvd is on my tv right now…they are great live, one of the best live bands I have ever seen…a late night Roo set will suck you right in

MMJ is just such an epic band. they are one of the best bands ive seen live and they know how to get the crowd riled up. the whole band are really great muscians. some people cant aquire a taste for jim james’ singing but that is understandable. whatever floats ur boat man.

There was a post below speculating that they were waiting until the DMB fan club ticket window closes on Monday before they reveal the Roo lineup. I was thinking the same thing– but for My Morning Jacket. They’re playing some big venues (many within a few hours of Manchester, TN) this spring and I would assume they’ll be heavily depending on those initial sales this weekend (and fan club sales going on the next few days) to fill all those seats. I know I’d rather not drop $50 to see them in a run-down auditorium if I knew I’d be seeing them in June under the stars. If they had released the lineup today, I guarantee their sales would have greatly suffered.

Generally, Tickets go on sale the Saturday following the lineup announcement - so February 13th, 2010 this year.
Does anyone else think the delay might have something to do with the DMB fanclub ticketing window closing on Monday? I was originally going to confirm DMB is playing B-Roo and not buy tickets to see him elsewhere. If he is not playing the festival, I would buy tickets. As it is, I think there are probably bigger issues at play but this still sucks. I’d rather sink $300 into one ticket for Bonnaroo than for two tickets to see DMB.

Friends of mine saw Alberta Cross in Columbus, OH last Saturday… they said they weren’t doing Bonnaroo this year. Bummer.
im thinking that we have a Rites of Spring 2009 on our hands:
RoS is this festival here in Nashville. Last year we had Flaming Lips, N.E.R.D., T.I., Q-Tip, K’naan, etc. The fest happen to fall over Coachella weekend and it was originally planned that TV on the Radio was going to play RoS but then bailed when Coachella came calling. So Vanderbilt scrambled and got T.I. to take their place.
My guess is that one of our upper tier acts, big enough to warrant a halt, either canceled or AC/Superfly pulled something bigger and dropped them. i dont think theyd do that but hey…
so i think that the wait is something we’ll be rewarded for.
Think about 2006. How stoked was everyone when we were totally dry of additions for about a month and a half and then they drop Oysterhead on us.
Trust in Alex my friends. The wait will be worth it.

I heard from my best friend that he had heard from his girlfriend that she had heard from her mom that she had heard from her boss who had heard from his son who is a member of Thom Yorke’s band that he will be there covering the White Album on Saturday night. And that they arent dropping the line-up until May 15, something about them wanting their loyal fans to keep the faith..
I don’t usually take the word of people who:
1) Give no source.
2) Hide behind of a cloak of anonymity (yes, I realize we are all fairly anonymous but at least humor us.)

i really hope hot chip is there. i saw them in 07 and it was great. i missed k.o.l. to see hot chip. plus, i left hot chip early to catch the end of franti and spearhead. i have high expectations for h.c.’s new album and coachella’s too far from MS. i was going to hit up rothbury, but it got cancelled. i can’t make it to their other stateside shows which are around the weekend of coachella. again, the distance is an issue. i haven’t been to bonnaroo since 07. i spent my time in 08 going to a couple of radiohead shows. it was worth it seeing a rainbow over the pavillion in houston right before the show on the ‘in rainbows’ tour. the energy was almost tangible. just like bonnaroo 06. i spent my time and money at voodoofest in new orleans in 09. i think the god and the universe is ready for me to be back at roo. i hope god and the universe is ready for hot chip to be back as well. one farm-one love!!

THAT IS WHAT MY POINT, IN MY OPINION IT WOULD BE THE BEST SINGLE MAIN HEADLINER SINCE 2006. No offense to pearl jam because i know they play for like 3 plus hours and really jam,but i like radiohead more and would love to see any member from pink floyd, let alone the wall being performed!!! that being said, im sure ‘07 will be hard to top. all depends on your preference…but this years seens to be shaping up nicely

it seems there are always complaints. some people are saying coachella’s lineup isn’t as good as years past. i think it’s all personal taste, and besides maybe festivals in general will have a down year. you can’t expect the same fest to crank out bands you want every year. besides, if roger waters is true you should go because it would be half as expensive just to see him by himself in a smaller venue. the people are what make the fest. and that would be one of the best headlienrs they’ve had. no offense to the police or bruce springsteen but that would be the best main headliner since 2006….

I really hope the Roger Waters rumor is true, although I’m sort of doubting it. Kings of Leon blew at Lollapalooza last year. Dave Matthews Band hasn’t made a good album since Before These Crowded Streets. Jay-Z just isn’t my cup of tea at all…
The good thing about Roo is, the headliners really don’t matter that much with all the great late-night sets. As long as they score Thom Yorke or Jonsi, I’ll be happy.

He says he was approached by someone who apparently has ins with people at Spin mag, he had on a bonnaroo hoodie which is why he thinks the guy talked to him, and told him Bowie would be on the farm. Any truth to that rumor Alex? Haven’t seen you post in a while. Bowie is a name that hasn’t come up much.

Oh no don’t get me wrong, as I stated in other posts I actually dislike Bonnaroo for numerous reasons, but I still go. Where else can I catch bands like Vampire Weekend, and Phish at the same place. (I know VW and Phish was two different years lol) But I mean this whole hardcore rock scene I really don’t like. Last years Dilinger Escape Plan and now Gwar, not really liking that, but I just wont go watch them.

Based on your post, it sounds like you’re convinced that Superfly can do no wrong as long as they slap the Bonnaroo label on it. Based on headliners alone, it’s clear that the fest has changed a great deal over the past decade (overall for the better, based on my tastes).
I still think that a discussion about how the fest has changed and whether that change is a good thing is a perfectly reasonable thing to discuss.
Why does every band have to have their fans labeled into a group? I love DMB and I hate frats… Also that is just a clique way to hate on dave (have you really ever heard anyone dissect the actual music to hate on him). Also I loved the MGMT show last year but understand it isnt for everyone. Also I saw Phish (yeah a person who saw MGMT also likes phish, there is no law saying that this should never happen). Isnt the idea of Bonnaroo to enjoy a lot of different types of music? So instead of labeling fan bases why should just appreciate different musical tastes. It would be pretty gay if we all liked the same stuff right? I love music… all types of music. If I don’t like a particular band though, I don’t rip on it as there really isn’t a need for it. Your tastes are your tastes… talk about what you like and why. That said, I will let the PUKERS have a piece of my mind, though!

I mean everyone has the right to voice how they feel, but to say Bonnaroo sucks or its an awful festival that’s just ignorant. If you don’t like the music, first off why are on you this blog? and second just don’t go. If the music playing isn’t your cup of tea, its not hard to walk away from it. There is no right or wrong when it comes to the art of music, end of story.
Its funny how people say they hate DMB because of the crowd yet they go to Bonnaroo. To be honest, since I go to many DMB shows and have been going to music festivals for years, I laugh at those guys that say that. Bonnaroo has become a place were frat boys and college kids can say they witnessed the hippie life. Every year I will have some frat kid ask my about my dreadlocks (which is totally fine, I don’t care) but then you hear the same people walk off and snear saying they will be the ones getting jobs while I am left out hear in the farm its kinda BS. And its not just once it happens all the time, they think they are so much better then the people that listen to The Dead or Phish, as they go off and watch MGMT. Funny thing is I prob go to the same school they do.
When you are at the Farm this year, just look around and listen. People are very interesting….
I think if someone thinks the projected lineup this year is a severe downgrade from previous years, they should be able to voice their opinion. Of course, it would be nice if they were offering something constructive, like “I used to go for all the hippie jam band stuff, but now they try to cater to too many people.”
I will, however, save my own personal opinion until I see an actual lineup. If the top 3 acts are DMB, JayZ, and KOL and there are only a few mid-tier acts that appeal to me, I’m going to have to consider sitting this one out.

First, I totally want all 5 bands there… no doubt. But I figured we listed some other bands on here besides the headliners because I truly believe the peeps from the farm look to see what we would like to see…
The “it looks like we’ll see…” comment is really based on a few things… the drive by truckers - they have a show in Nashville on 4/30 which leaves a 6 week gap (ha i said gap) between that show and bonnaroo. SO my gut tells me they’re in because I think that’s enough time between shows so their not breaking any of the ‘roo’s rules. Broken social scene really laid low last year after a busy 2008 and career. Right now they are definitely doing some shows. Their tours has a convenient gap (there I go again) between May 21th and June 19th. Both those bands fit well into the ‘Roo spirit and I feel they are shoe ins. That is just my opinion though.
The hold steady…. maybe but a band member just quit… so who really knows. Deerhunter/altas sound…. I just don’t see how Bradford Cox isn’t at the roo with Deerhunter touring w/ Spoon or Altas Sound just putting a serious awesome album. The Battles are coming out with a new album and I don’t see why they wouldn’t be touring to support it. So why not come to TN!!!

First I want to say I am very open to all kinds of music, doesnt matter what genre it is. However, when I YouTubed Jay-Z at Live Glastonbury I was very disappointed. But I saw Snoop-Dogg last year at Bonnaroo, and he was the same way just sounds awful live.

Yes, I’m sure there will be 100+ acts on the farm, but there are 3-5 headliners. Kings of Leon are good if they don’t play any new stuff. DMB I haven’t really gotten into that much but I’m sure he’ll put on a cool show and bring some ladies to the farm. I’m pretty sure MMJ will be there, and maybe the Allman Bros.
So, I’m not complaining. I’m just saying that we could get a whole lot better than Jay-Z.
And I’m looking for something that can match last year’s Phish/Boss/Phish. If it looks like the rumors, this year just wouldn’t do it for me.
I get people complaining about a group like KOL headlining, because they are a young group with mostly radio appeal, a stage show that seems unlikely to be compelling for anyone not in the first 20K closest to the stage, and have decades to go before achieving legendary status.
But be clear: there is no one in hip-hop more capable of putting on a show that will entertain 60K people more than Jay-Z. His combination of skill, hits, and stage presence is unrivaled. We can list off underground MCs, but on those three categories, the three that matter most for putting on a great headlining show, he’s the best. So all I hear from people complaining about Jay-Z is “No Hip-Hop at Bonnaroo”.
And that’s a fair opinion, but prepare to be disappointed annually. Bonnaroo has evolved into the most varied grouping of high quality acts playing in a single weekend on the planet. To ignore the genre would be to fail at that mission. Instead, they book the very best.
My advice is to do one of the two things I do when acts play that I don’t care for(i.e. jam bands). Don’t bitch and ruin other people’s good times, but rather go see another act, or take a damn nap, cause it will be a very long and epic night.

very possible jay-z makes it…whats the time difference 5 hours? lets say jay-z goes on at 7:30 london time, plays 2 1/2 hours til 10 pm london time, does his encore and is off the stage and in his limo by 1030 pm london time. makes an hour drive to the nearest airport 1130pm london time. by this time his people have already been preparing for take-off so all he has to do is walk on to his private plane and take off 12am london time. makes the 8-9 hour flight lands in memphis what like 4AM (5 HOUR TIME DIFFERENCE)…hops on his bus which was probably waiting for him at the airport, gets to a hotel to bang beyonce by 7AM…does that for a few hours, arrives at the farm 1PM to talk to stage manager, to find out where the trailer carrying his DUPLICATE stage set-up should park.

Everybody knows that Jay-Z is playing the Isle of Wight Festival. Jay-Z is so big that he won’t have to wait on any planes or anything. He will simply go from one show to the next and it will be fine. That’s the life when you are a baller like Jay-Z.

Jay-Z is already on the lineup for Isle of Wight. Which is in Isle of Wight, England from June 11th to 13th.
How likely can it be that Jay-Z do a show across the ocean until say, 12 or 1 in the morning, drive about an hour-ish to the nearest airport, wait another hour or so for his plane to take off, spend around 8-12 hours in the air, then arrive in Nashville, Tennessee where he will have to take ANOTHER hour-ish car ride to arrive on the farm in Manchester.
If somehow he is able to do this, either ‘Roo or Isle of Wight is going to be an absolutely horrific show.
SO, I would not expect Jay-Z.

Blakroc is a project with the Black Keys and MANY rappers, NOE included. But Mos Def, RZA and Ludacris also appear on the album. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Jay Z Black Keys collab, maybe at the SuperJam.
As for the Roger Waters thing…I think it’s pretty legit. Alex seemed like he knew enough to think he’d be at the farm and I trust Alex’s judgement. Guess we’ll find out in a week.

If Mos Def and the Black Keys are there and are doing a Blakroc set, it would be a perfect late night fit. I just don’t see that show even being half as entertaining if it’s during the day. I know it’s hard to award such an awesome spot to a “new” band but worth it.

I don’t think it would be that terrible to have KOL as a late show vs. [insert random DJ set]. If they could play an energized, rock-ass midnight set they would gain alot of respect they lost over the years since their last roo appearance.
I am totally agree with ‘Assumed Celebrity Name’. Remember last year we knew half the lineup and all the headliners before the lineup release? This year we don’t know much, and what we do know, it has very little evidence. Like we know KOL and DMB but I think there’s someone that SuperFly is really excited about and we are going to flip a lid.

I have been a fan of pearl jam, specifically of yours s,ince the early 90’s, your work with temple of the dog was truly inspiring. Not only that but your work on the “into the wild” soundtrack. IINSPIRING. Now here I sit, no ticketstub from “an evening with eddie vedder” hurt, broken. HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME AND YOUR OTHER FANS. I find it unforgiveable. I think i have the answer for all the dave matthews hatred…my friend(in accordance with an episode of southpark) hates DMB because of the fans. He thinks their all ‘fake-hippies’ or (from southpark) ‘college hippies who know it all’ . he said they all wear flip-flops with their north-faces, and for some reason he can’t stand them…I have never been into them, but i’m sure they would be fun live. I think it’s primarily because it’s cool for our generation to be un-american. it’s like DMB represents something that is traditional and rooted in country-jammy classic vibes that kids don’t want because of the lack of common identity with this generation in america, no pride. That is why ‘indie’ has been labeled because that is the cool thing to do. which is why supposed ‘indie kids’ love hip hop because our generation feels betrayed and unfamiliar with what america has been in the past. Anyway, sorry i know it’s all just labels in the end which is terrible; but i think the true dislike for DMB is more psychological and less against the music; because, I never hear anyone actually say the music sucks. just the band. Ask daniel tosh…he hates them too. It’s cool to hate them for some reason as someone said earlier. all that said, I’m sure the lineup will be good enough to go. the festival is an experience with music as a bonus…besides, isn’t dmb more of a bonnaroo style band than say…Kings of leon

Too crowded, waiting in mud for an hour to get gross water, too many sketchy people, young kids that honestly can’t handle what they are doing….But I have been going for the past 5 years and will join everyone in 2010…Just something about feels like home, even if the lineup isn’t that great I am still going. Because its Bonnaroo, that has changed my life forever, 5 years ago, and now I freaking travel the US festival to festival selling banana bread and hanging out with awesome people.

Oh Andy Morgan and GMAN you guys are the coolest kids on the playground. Sorry GMAN, that I’m not a DMB fan. I think they do some incredible things musically and I’m sure they put on a good live show, but I don’t like their music. Boo-fucking-hoo. DOn’t take it personal. AS far as me just getting around to posting about it, sorry, I have a life besides internet chat and comment boards. Sorry that everyone doesn’t play by your rules.
I posted about them because I generally go to Lolla every year and can’t see how Lolla’s going to offer a lineup that is going to be anything to make me want to go. As a result, ‘Roo is my next choice and as much as I am usually excited about a lot of other bands outside of the headliners, I would still like to have someone in those slots I would at least like to see. Luckily for me last year at Lolla’ there was Tool, Depeche Mode, Jane’s Addiction and the Killers as headliners. I like them all. HOwever, my favorite sets of the weekend were Band of Horses, Neko Case, Dan Auerbach, Friendly Fires, and Atmosphere. So while I know there will be much more to see then just the headliners, I would still like to have someone there I want to see.
BTW, Alex Young, you do one hell of a job. THanks for all the news and info. ‘Roo is awesome because of their openness for artists like Al Green and Raphael Saadiq to perform. Acts like those generally don’t seem very likely at many of the other festivals, besides Coachella.

For the folks who don’t think KOL is “headliner” material.. how many acts can you list who have played Bonnaroo the year after headlining an ARENA tour (they played Sommet Center in 2009) and NOT headlined Bonnaroo? I’m drawing a blank myself.
When they were scheduled the same night as Beasties at ACL last year, KOL got the longer set and larger stage. So, if Beasties can headline Bonnaroo, KOL can, too, especially in their own backyard.
People who are hating on them should put that hatred aside and look at the facts– KOL is big enough to headline. I’m just hoping for good opposition (Pavement? Arcade Fire?) on the Which stage like Friday night last year.
Would it really be that big of a deal if KOL played the main stage with opposition in the evening before Neil Young played a late night set right after them (a la Phish last year)?

DMB will be good live. Their festival shows are usually very standard with nothing really crazy BUT…if Neil is there he’s coming out. Paul Simon could too. Warren, Trey, Robert Randolph, The Roots the list goes on and on.
KOL- i will admit that being from Nashville and seeing the band grow from a small bar band to international superstars, i am bias toward their music. I think they’re great and if they play i will go see them. I can TOTALLY understand the “poppy” argument but i have to agree with Mazdawg that listening to Aha and Youth its a sonic difference from Only By The Night. Aha and Youth are “cock rock” in its purest form.
I also agree that the headliners are not the main draw for a lot of us on here. We are the people who LOVE LOVE LOVE music and are very passionate about it.

I think its funny when people say they hate Dave so much, because if he was that awful as a person or a musician he wouldn’t be able to sell out shows let alone a show with over 100,000 people in less then a day. I mean if you don’t like his music thats cool but I mean come now.

I really think it maybe a possiblity as Hot Chip’s US tour is super short and they are coming out w/ a new album soon. They really like it over here and I don’t see them only doing 7 dates in the US. I would really like to see them play a late night show plus the boys are DJs and they love to spin them some records. That would be a added bonus.

As to the female comment…. i could see what your saying based on the Only by the night cd. That Cd is very poppy and it was meant for the masses so they could bank some coin. That said, you need to listen to Youth & Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak. I wouldn’t really consider those albums geared towards the ladies or too poppy. Plus when they played those songs before they really blew up, they did it with amazing energy and it would have been hard to find a better dirty rock concert out there. Not saying there wasn’t.
I’m also in with Brownie as the last headliner I even listen too was the Police and when they played the song “so lonely”. I thought Sting was singing salami in place of so lonely which scared me and I went to get a spot for a late night show.
Didnt KOL get a bucket of mustard thrown at them at Bonnaroo 2007? Also their music is more suited for, how can I say this without sounding slanted or sexist, females. I think they have got pop songs down, but I really don’t think we can consider them gifted musicians or songwriters.
I don’t know why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over the headliners. The headliners are rarely the best shows at the Roo. What makes this festival so unique is the collaborations that could only happen at Bonnaroo and usually whatever shows are at midnight on the Which stage. The rest is just there to pass the time and hopefully they will be good shows to see.
…and as far as being one of the sad people waiting in line for 10 hours in the middle Tennessee sun…come Wednesday night.
They say they won’t let you in but I’ve done it every year and I have pulled up straight to security every time. But be prepared to setup camp further away from Centeroo if not in an RV.

and yes, I pulled the foot from my mouth upon learning DMB’s summer tour dates, with the conveient gap for bonnaroo, i was just hoping they wouldnt play it, because i cant take another bonnaroo, after 02, 03, 04…its just gotten way too big for me, too many people, and for some reason im always the last mother fucker in line waiting 10 hours in my car to park!

I’ve heard people saying that its going to be neil young v. kol on friday. I understand why people are saying this but its also an insult to kol. when they played in 2007 everyone loved them. Because of the Times came out and everyone was singing the songs. But suddenly they get popular and they are “sellouts” and the “worst thing ever”. I get it if you dont like their music, but don’t hate on them because they’re popular.
That should really have nothing to do with your opinion. Now if you’re sick of “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody” like i am then thats fine, but that doesnt represent the band at all.
They are great performers with great songs and one of the few “rock bands” left in the world. And as always, as is the splendor of Bonnaroo, if you dont like em, then you can go take a nap or go get a good spot for Muse/Gorillaz

This video came out on Jan 19th, Daft Punk just released a song today, there have been rumors flying around that DP will tour to promote Tron: Legacy which is set to come out in Dec 2010, there was a leak in late 2009 that they planned on touring in 2010 (this rumor was killed by COS and DP) and they responded to that China scam with “they will visit china during their world tour sometime in 2010 or 2011″.
This is all a coincidence? Am I reaching here? I don’t know but it’s all mighty strange and it seems like they’re gear up to tour again. So why not Bonnaroo…. They’ve played at Coachella and Lolla. It only makes sense that they stop by the farm to melt some faces.

I just saw an email from a guy I work with who is in the DMB fan club and it says 6/13 Bonnaroo Music Festival.
DMB is going to be at Roo, they left June 10-12 open on their summer tour and play the 15th in nearby Cincinatti.
Thank you Alex. I was just hoping it wasn’t all a rumor out of nothing, and had at least some credibility behind it so I wasn’t getting my hopes up too high.

Waited 10+ years to see them and then it happened… Lolla 2007!!! That weekend was one of the greatest concert experiences of my life and daft punk was one of the reasons. I remember laughing at people saying how awesome Ben Harper was, as he was playing on the other stage. Not to knock Ben Harper…. but come on!!!

Every year people say they hate the line-up, and then the shows are awesome (aside from the Kanye thing, I hear). I’ve been to three Bonnaroo’s and it has NEVER been about the headliners for me (well, except for 2006’s Radiohead). I even thought I’d be into the Boss last year and hate Phish, and just the opposite came true.
But, to stay on topic, I bet AC/Supafly has something awesome up their sleeves. From reading the interview with Ashley Capps, there’s no way he’d be happy (with only) catching KOL after a massive world tour, having Jay-Z (who is also headling Coachella), and DMB (who tours constantly and can be caught at every secondary market venue usually once a year). Either this headliner line-up is bunk, or there are a few other HEAVY names that will be announced. Personally, I love all music, but I think there is still (at least) one HUGE player to be announced that no one has a clue about.
Seriously, Hike, no offense man. I was just trying to stir up the hornet’s nest.

I don’t understand why you people complain so much, if you dont like the bands don’t go? Like seriously not that big of a deal, I am sure the farm will not miss you.
At this point, I’m not as concerned with DMB and KOL, so long as the line-up has solid diversity. Personally I can’t stand those bands, but my hope is that there be plenty of bands I like, and other people can’t stand. It’s what makes Bonnaroo special. My biggest problem with that pairing is that they speak to the same audience, but it’s wildly unfair to judge this line-up off two of many headliners.
Now if the line-up comes out and all the top acts fit the frat-rock or classic rock bill, then the complaining can and will be fit.
Hike has a point. Many people like DMB that aren’t frat boys. There are still the true Teva wearing DMB followers out there and people that just like music fans. He sold out the damn central park concent in less then one day with 100,000 tickets…thats freaking epic.
I mean every year there is a band that brings an “out” group….I rather have DMB any day then the metal heads from Matellica.

DMB is one of my favorite bands and I am far from a frat boy. I have dreadlocks and travel all summer to different music festivals selling fucking banana bread to make gas money for the next show, and I know many other non-frat boys that like DMB as well.
