Radiohead, Pavement reunion, and an old-timer to headline.
Guaranteed a huge reunion is in the works. My bet is still the Smiths. Think about Morissey and Marr are on speaking terms now and have recently collaborated together (albeit it was on deciding on what tracks go on the smiths greatest hits but that’s a huge step for someone as vain as Morissey). And the smiths would be the ultimate reunited act for coachella.
The Specials
I would put my money on The Smiths if we didn’t do this… EVERY FRIGGING YEAR! And anyway, I would prefer the Talking Heads exponentially.
But seriously fellas, Paul T. has already stated nothing special, Coachella-wise, for the big 10 year… but then of course, every Coachella is pretty special (excpet 2005?) so obviously there’s still going to be something shockingly great on that poster come January… but all I’m saying is relax and let it happen when it happens.
2009 will be a good year for every kinda musical style you like
depeche mode and u2 will realease a new album
metallica and kings of leon have just released their albums (touring extensively in 2009)
pearl jam, green day, guns n roses and deftones are working in a new album
any other band?
i guess coachella guys wont have a problem finding hype bands to book.
and guns ‘n’ roses…
The Killers. They have to fill their quota of at least 150 music festivals for each touring cycle.
Flight of the Conchords, The Prodigy, TV on the Radio, Deerhunter, No Age, Abe Vigoda, Of Montreal, Asobi Seksu, The Ting Tings, Vivian Girls, Jay Reatard, The Watson Twins, Conor Oberst, and some sort of Gorillaz dj dance tent set
this is going to be a big year, tenth year if i am correct. talked about rancid and op-ivy in the goldenvoice blog, so maybe that could be counted as a rumor? and MBV arent playing, they are recording next year, and it will take them forever to do that. the prodigy is pretty much a given since the comments last year, and im betting on muse being there.
GORILLAZ FOR 09
Just so everyone doesn’t get their hopes…
Paul T said in an interview that he wasn’t that into “anniversaries”, so don’t expect some monumental coachella lineup this year.
expect it to be good, but if you think it’s going to be unbelievably huge, then prepare to be let down a bit.
The Mountain Goats
Lily Allen
Boris
Mogwai
Comedians of Comedy
Los Campesinos
People still remember Lily Allen? And the Comedians of Comedy are no more.
It’s a safe bet that Radiohead will be there. You know they moved the festival up a week to accommodate their touring schedule…why else would they?
Boris and Mogwai? Nice.
Is there any word on any of these yet?:
Radiohead
David Bowie
Jarvis Cocker
The Chemical Bros
Beck
The White Stripes
Radiohead - I believe no, but I haven’t heard anything
Bowie - I’m good, but not Bowie knowing good. If he plays, he’ll confirm like Prince did with industry rumblings a few weeks before the announcement.
Jarvis - Probably not. I bet Pulp reunites in the next few years.
Chem Bros - Seems like they’re on.
Beck - Haven’t heard anything.
White Stripes - Heard that they didn’t want to do anything until Summer 2009, but who knows.
It’s pretty early on, so confirmations are mostly heresay or smaller bands.
i do believe they moved up the dates not because of radiohead but because of the polo season and the weather.
i’m pretty sure we can expect franz ferdninand, TV on the radio and the cool kids (repeat i know but new album early next year). headliners? i’m really doubtful of the rumored headliners (ie radiohead, mbv, bowie) and i really don’t expect to see any of ‘em. Though i pray to God that lilly allen and jane’s addictin don’t show up. As for longshots? Here’s to Pavement or Belle & Sebastian
There’s a big rumor, here in Mexico, that Radiohead will be perfoming a latinamerican tour next year. In fact I read that they’ll play three shows in Mexico City (16th, 17th and 18th of March). You can check that in greenplastic.com site.
So considering Radiohead environmental thoughts of touring they could do latinamerica in march and some early summer fests in US, like Coachella begining in april.
(sorry bout my english)
I’ve heard the rumors about the Radiohead shows in Mexico as well. So a Radiohead at Coachella rumor isnt all that far-fetched.
Actually, the reason why the dates are moved up a week earlier have nothing to do with GV trying to get Radiohead or another band, nor does it have anything to do with the weather.
Taken from an LA times blog:
“First, Coachella is moving up early in April. Why? The answer lies in Louisiana, of all places. AEG Live, the concert promotion company that became a partner in Coachella in 2001, is also the corporate engine these days behind the grand old New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which will be April 24-26 and April 30-May 3. Both massive events are now national (or international even) in their target audience and media coverage and for logistical reasons the decision was made to spread them out a bit.”
so guess spreading em out will help with the overcrowding
wonder if any of the festivals will lower prices on tix in the face of the recession we’re in
How about The Flaming Lips?
Suck it Smiths. I told u people.

Smiths aren’t getting back together.

Someone needs to put an end to “the sun”.
You believe NME? Then again, the first report came from The Sun so I’m not sure either story can be trusted…
I knew it was to good to be true but i still see it happening. Im going with the sun on this one.
As I said on my blog yesterday, the Smiths are not playing Coachella 2009 and there haven’t been any substantial talks for them to play.
However, Built to Spill is playing, and that’s definitely a good thing.
Until I hear either or from morrissey’s mouth i’ll stand pat. I am convinced that they will reunite for a coachella. Whether or not its this one we will see.
Monklish, how do you know they’re playing? (Built to Spill)
Hey Monklish, how about Sigur Ros or Gorillaz?
Haven’t heard anything, yet. Gorillaz seem doubtful because there’s no guarantees that they’ll have their new material finished by April.
Thank you. What about two acts that should have been there last year or this year: Feist and Broken Social Scene?
The Specials (original line-up w/ Terry Hall & jerry Dammers)
anyone see the leaked fake lineup? it was amazing
I highly doubt that Feist will be there.
Don’t you guys ever read the site?
http://consequenceofsound.net/2008/10/21/feist-to-throttle-back-after-canadian-tour/
I’d love to see a Blur reunion
So I guess Feist will never, ever play, then. Lame. Especially about the BSS thing.
this shit is so predictable.
radiohead, the killers, and morrissey will headline.
pavement, the specials, and one of the many former brit-pop bands will do reunions.
some of 2008’s pitchfork/nme bands that were not there this year will play, some of 2009’s will play, too
prodigy and chems and jaxxx and santogold and simian mobile disco will be in the dance tent.
hank williams the third will pull double duty at coachella and stagecoach
snow patrol will unfortunately return, and with a later timeslot.
pulp will not be the reuniting brit-pop band, and jarvis cocker will do another solo set.
blur will not reunite either, and daman albarn will do nothing.
How is Snow Patrol unfortunate? They’re an amzing band, aside from the super overplayed Chasing Cars, their new album A Hundred Million Suns is quite magnificent
Snatch, Pavement would headline over everyone there except radiohead.
i thought so too but word is pavement will be playing at sunset right before radiohead just like the pixies in 2004
Thank you for painting the best picture ever.
I can see Pavement playing on the Outdoor Stage. Maybe I’m out of touch, but when Pavement was a band, it was not nearly as popular as normal Coachella headliners (e.g., Prince, RHCP, Tool, Depeche Mode, Roger Waters, Bjork, etc.). In fact, most people hadn’t heard of Pavement. Sure, every indie kid coming up now considers him/herself a Pavement fan, but Radiohead, the Killers and Morrissey are all more popular.
Then again, my best guess is that we won’t be seeing Radiohead, Pavement or Morrissey (w/o the Smiths).
Well, The Prodigy won’t be playing on the 17th. Pollstar has them listed that night in London.
Yeah Prodigy are looking strangely unlikely all of the sudden, just yesterday I figured them for shoe-in’s… could still be done though. How long’s the flight from London to L.A.? Anybody? If its 12 hours… yeah. They could pull it off comfortably.
london and LA are on oppisite sides of the world, going east or west it would probably be about 19 hours
^ but the time zone change would work in your favor in this case.
The headliners are obviously going to be No Doubt, Morrissey, and the White Stripes.
it is actually 12 hours. if its 5 hours to LA from JFK and 7 hours to london to JFK. add that up. prodigy could very well be there. and the last date they have in the UK is the 15th.
Thank you anonymous, I was thinking the same… I KNOW it’s 5-6 hours from LA to NY, and according to my little desk globe in front of me, the distance from NY to the UK is similar but a little longer.
But…
What would that time change add up to?
Simian Mobile Disco and Santogold are both returning to play the Sahara next year and David Byrne, TV On The Radio, She & Him, Crystal Castles, Animal Collective are booked too.
fuckin ACE!
Tinariwen!
i’ve wanted to see these guys forever!
i thought i got lucky just seeing amadou & mariam
OutKast is not really rumored. That’s a bunch of wishful thinking on the Coachella Messageboard.
au contraire, there is some evidence behind the Coachella rumor…

Pretty sure I read posts on the Coachella message board that debunked the Outkast rumor as being some radio station jam festival in Atlanta.
Radiohead, White Stripes, Gorillaz to headline.
it’s official!!!!!!!!! radiohead will play the 16th of march here in mexico…they’ll be around the continent so…coachella?
According to someone on the Coachella board that spoke to the band, Yeah Yeah Yeahs want to play but are unlikely because Goldenvoice wants new blood and they have limits to how many and how often acts of a certain tier can return.
Stevie Wonder
Franz Ferdinand
Lykke Li
Marnie Stern
Asobi Seksu
the Bloody Beetroots
