I heard that both members of Justice are playing with Club 75 so it’s not just Xavier. There’s supposed to be 6 guys there, both member of Justice, Busy P, DJ Mehdi, and both members of Cassius
Anyone else have a feeling that Justice might end get added as a late addition? Figuring that Xavier will already be there along with their manager Busy P in Club 75, and they’ve been speculated to release a new album in early 2010.

It’s all fine and dandy that there are some great reunions. But how many times can we all see Vampire Weekend? I love them, and I’m going to watch them, but by now it’s not that big of a deal. Besides Jay-Z and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, we need Mos Def, Doom, Dizzee Rascal…and Clipse needs to make up for his cancellation last year. The Arctic Monkeys were an amazing live act left off of last year’s bill. The Shins have an album coming out. The National have an album coming out. !!! plays Coachella nearly every two years…they have an album coming out. The Walkmen have an album coming out. The Arcade Fire have an album coming out. The Tallest Man On Earth’s second album comes out soon. The Veils need to come back to Coachella. The Felice Brothers were made for Coachella. Black Joe Lewis was at every festival last year, not Coachella. Wolf Parade or Sunset Rubdown would be nice additions. Owen Pallett is fantastic, but Andrew Bird was strangely absent from last years coachella. Where the Fuck is The Very Best. Grace Jones!!! Sweet! But what about Janelle Monae or Raphael Saadiq. Bonnie “Prince” Billy just came out with a live album. Fuck Buttons are going to be at all the “hip” festivals this year. Has Bat For Lashes played Coachella? Maximo Park’s album was better than the fuckin Cribs. What about another great instrumental band, i.e. Nomo. There’s a million new indie acts better than the crap on the bottom of this lineup. one eskimo? wtf? What about Cymbals Eat Guitars, Woods, Real Estate, Surfer Blood, The Mummers, Kurt Vile. This Coachella is decent, but it needs some real nice additions on all levels of the poster. I know…I’m not taking into account bands tour schedules…yadayada. There are a million flaws in my logic. But I feel other festivals like Bonaroo and Sasquatch! and now even Lolla are ahead of the curve in billing bands that are exciting to see throughout the whole poster.
All this trash talking aside. I’m going. And I’m excited. But I’m furiously hoping for a couple of nice ads…obviously.

I don’t understand how Saturday is weak. Aside from the headliners (and that will change when they add someone else), you have some stellar shows. RX Bandits? MEW?! Portugal. The Man! Hot Chip. Dead Weather. Les Claypool. White Rabbits. Frightened Rabbit. Temper Trap (they opened for P. the man during cmj and were awesome live). Steel Train.
There are some really talented and really good live shows Saturday. Mew is one of the best live bands. With RX Bandits and P. The Man and Dead Weather rocking. And dance with tiesto later. I wish I could go.
I just hope APW turns it on this year and that lolla gets the flips

How can you say that this lineup is weak? When Friday and Sunday are so stacked. Public Image Ltd and Echo and the Bunnymen could probably sub-headline most years, but are put on the third and fourth lines respectively. Vampire Weekend probably could as well (after all they do have the number one album on the charts right now. One of the biggest names in music right now in Jay-Z at the top of the bill. Reunions like PIL, The Specials, Faith No More, Orbital, and Pavement. Rare gets like Gorillaz, Thom Yorke, Fever Ray, Grace Jones (who played the hollywood bowl by the way), Sly and the Family Stone, Jonsi, Julian Casablancas, Gary Numan, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Club 75, Yann Tierson, Plastikman, Gil-Scott Heron. And there’s still The Dead Weather, Grizzly Bear, Them Crooked Vultures, LCD Soundsystem, Beach House, the big pink, the xx etc etc etc on the bill.
I think this lineup compares pretty well with last years. I think the Gorillaz will be an epic closer. I do believe we will get one fairly big addition each day. Friday: Beasties, Saturday: Soundgarden or Someone to headline over Muse, Sunday: Massive Attack.
The subs are what coachella is all about. My day isn’t dictated by who closes the festival, 08 my day wasn’t ruined by Jack Johnson, and last year saturday wasn’t ruined by me not catching a minute of the killers. The headliners are icing on the cake. I do think Saturday is very very weak though.
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble was added yesterday. Surprised it hasn’t been mentioned here yet.
Coachella is gonna hurt on ticket sales this year.

Well… Prince was added a few days before the Festival when the headliner was PORTISHEAD, so it is very possible.
I was looking over past Coachella posters and noticed on a couple there were three subheadliners on each day. What are the chances that we might get late adds to that line? Fitting rumors might put Wilco on friday, Beastie Boys on saturday and Soundgarden on sunday. I think this would round out the music styles for the weekend nicely.

I love the line-up. I will be making the trip from seattle this year (first Coachella). But I was looking forward to The Beastie Boys (missed them at Outside Lands last summer) and my favorite grunge band reunite Soundgarden. I don’t see how The Roo beat Coachella last year. Paul=Bruce, The Killers=Beastie Boys, The Cure>Phish, Moz=Byrne, NIN=MBV. It seemed like they had pretty equal lineups last year and The Roo having one band headline two nights puts them a step back in my eyes I really don’t care who the band is they should not headline two nights of a festival.
Well if Jay-Z was the surprise, he isn’t anymore. So GV needs to keep on looking especially now that Bonarroo is promising to be off the fuckin charts this year with The Who, the Stones, and others. It’d be a shame to get beat by Bonarroo 2 years in a row
Jay Z is meant to be a “surprise” but apparently someone let the cat out of the bag. Beasties Boys are the headliner that will most likely be on the poster. Expect Jay Z to be added once Staples sells out or comes close to it.

It’s the general idea that Beastie Boys are an acceptable headliner for a festival with a lot of indie rock acts, but somehow Jay-Z “doesn’t fit.” If you’re not one of the people saying that then obviously I’m not talking about you. And don’t give me the “well Beastie Boys sample Led Zeppelin so they’re rock-friendly” line - Jay-Z sampled The Doors.

If it is Jay-Z, Gorillaz, and Muse it will be the first time I didn’t look at the headliners and be surprised. Last year the anticipation was met with Macca-Cure-Killers, and while I have no time for Killers and Macca, it was at least typical Coachella that surprised me. @Harry Painter - No, but unfortunately headliners do “sell” tickets. I’ve been goin’ to Coachella every year since 2001, and have seen it grow from about 20,000 to 60,000.
If these indeed are the headliners, it might actually bring attendance down a little, which means more room for other stages. Your overestimating the draw of Gorillaz (as cool as that will be), they alone don’t have the drawing power of say..Paul Macca, or Prince, or Madonna, or even RATM (2007)
Trust me, the undercard has to be brilliant, and I seriously hope it is..PAVEMENT, DEVO, THOM YORKE…ORBITAL..these will definitely make up for the lack of “star power” in the upper tiers.

I’m not complaining I would love to see the Gorillaz and Muse put on a great show but still horribly unimpressive for the top of the bill. I’m still holding out hope that one of the following 3 will be a surprise out of left field add. Radiohead, Strokes, or the reunited White Stripes. Hell Jack White should play all three days.
@Chris - You’ll probably be dumbfounded on how pedestrian the headliners end up being, it happens every year. It’s probably someone that will be a repeat or like a “meh” pick…the rabbit in the hat will most likely be someone in the mid tier, much like a Massive Attack (06), Daft Punk (06), Cocteau Twins (05 although it eventually never happened), and Throbbing Gristle (09).

@MRKTOV - Every year, The Glass House has “secret Coachella Shows” THis year it’s gonna be She and Him. Also, it appears that the Fox Theater is now lumped into this ( its new and it is indeed GV) and the last couple years its been the El Rey (another GV owned venue)
Contractually for MOST bands that play Coachella, they have a clause where they cannot announce any LA show until AFTER the Coachella line up is announced.
It’s a business decision, they’d rather get people to Coachella event first. Tons of bands end up playing around LA usually right before or right after, but the shows usually aren’t announced to much later. That’s why the JAY - Z headlining makes NO sense.
Think about, he would have already toured most of the US for a month by then including LA a mere 3 weeks before the event.
If Coachella wants to be a destination festival, why pick out a headliner most of the country has already seen (not to mention who headlined their last event) including 20,000 or so in LA at the staples center?
He will not move that many tickets, which headliners are supposed to do.

Most if not all bands won’t play an LA date if they’re playing Coachella. It’s a clause in the contract they sign when they agree to play Coachella. GV wants it so the only way their fans can see them is to come to Coachella.
I have an inside source who tells me you can expect to see a couple of confirmed named reported this evening in the LA Times online, but don’t expect the headliners to be revealed just yet.

Of course bands would play an LA date right before Coachella. It doesn’t have to be at GV venues either. Seriously get your facts straight. If a band is already in CA right before Coachella, they are more likely to attend than if they’re in some other state or out of the country. So the Ruby Suns and Toro will probably be there. As for two door cinema club, yes they will be in europe. People make mistakes though and that lineup looks legit. It has pieces from COS and Monk because COS and Monk get their info from Golden Voice. So pretty much, they get their info from that list not the other way around.
Everybody is gonna try to debunk any leak that comes out. So it doesn’t matter if it really is a real leak. But that lineup is a lot more believable than any I have seen so far.

First, in regards to the rational for the change to “Expected,” this is merely a technicality that allows us to continue keeping track of lineup news without a.) burning too many contacts and future editorial possibilities and b.) pissing off readers who say nothing is confirmed until it’s actually on stage. That said, every act we list as “Expected,” we expect to be there. We are confident in what is listed.
And to give you behind-the-scenes look, everything is double checked. That means if we get it from the board, we verify through a second source before posting. That’s why, for example, A Place to Bury Strangers isn’t listed.

It’s not about looking “wrong,” as everything listed in expected is checked and re-checked. While we may not have “broken” several of the artists listed, we have verified appearances by checking in with the appropriate parties. In fact, all the bands listed under expected are expected Coachella. Wouldn’t we look bad (regardless of the word) if they did not? Rest assured, the info is as accurate as ever.
They just don’t want to look “wrong” when names they have up surprisingly to them don’t end up on the lineup, and then people will say this site is always right about their rumors and tell the writers “Good job!” That’s all they’re doing. It makes me sick especially since none of what they have up was actually retrieved on their own. It’s all stolen from other websites and their “independent sources” might as well just be an educated guess combined with a good healthy hunch that we all have about a certain band playing.

Sade is big in certain circles and to a certain crowd. For example, she can easilly sell out the Hollywood Bowl in L.A. But the indie/Coachella crowd is not her usual source of fans. Nevertheless, I believe she would be extremely well received.
The news of her April/May U.S. tour refers to it as a brief jaunt, thereby suggesting that she will be coming back later in the year for a full tour. Plus with her on the lineup, Coachella would be able to reclaim the title of Most Diverse Yet Awesome Festival.
I can totally see her doing the Friday just after sunset slot on the main stage. If she does, she will kill it and it will be one for the books.

Elvis Costello playing California dates the week before Coachella, but playing Atlantic City NJ on Friday - unlikely to come back across country to visit the polo fields?
Japandroids have stated that they scheduled their tour so they could come as fans and that they weren’t invited to play.
Japandroids are in Las Vegas on the 15th and Phoenix on the 19th. It’s usually a pretty good indication a band is on the bill when they’re in that hood.

Bloody beetroots might make a repeat appearance. they’re playing in SF 3 days after coachella and LA after that. I doubt they would come all the way from Italy for two shows. They tore it up last year. it’d be good to them again

I mean really think about. I personally rather have just Robert Plant or Rogers Waters, or whoever play solo, instead of a festival paying 3 times the amount just for an old band name.

While you may have a point about Alex trying to regulate all the fake lineup postings, which IMO is really annoying and am totally on his side. I’m confused about why so many people are putting up hypothetical lineups with Soundgarden as a subheadliner. They’d most definitely get to headline a night–reunion acts always get higher billing than they would have in their heyday, and they were huge in the 90s. Everyone knows “Black Hole Sun.”

Disco Nesi, I think your best bet is to hold tight and let whatever happens happen. We should be pretty thankful this year that we have such a large variety of headliners and subheadliners in the running. Remember last year when barely anybody wanted to tour because of the economy or just wasn’t touring so they could work on new material? This year, I think whatever combination ends up on the poster will be satisfying.
So with Soundgarden officially reuniting, does that mean we will have an evening with Soundgarden opening for a headlining Pearl Jam? If the Stones are still in the running maybe that bumps Muse to a subheadliner the night of the Stones, and then Gorillaz as the final headliner with a Strokes opener? Or is that just absurdly optimistic hope?
That would be arguably the best lineup in Coachella history, especially if Orbital and Lcd Soundsystem are headlining Sahara two of the nights.

I was in the Coachella chat room last night between 11:30pm and 12:30am (I’m lame and don’t have anything else better to do on New Years Eve…) and somebody popped in under the username “Cornwall” saying Soundgarden would be playing Coachella. Disco Nesi, I respect the comments you made. But I do have to disagree with you a little bit. Granted, they still have jambands, it’s not the main focal point. Phish played 2 nights because they’re Phish and they helped get Bonnaroo started in the first place. So when they come back from a long-ass hiatus, of course they’re going to get the treatment. And although they “headlined” 2 nights, they played after the Beastie Boys headlining set on Friday night of last year.
As for the aging rockers, I was hesitant on Springsteen last year because I hated the guy…until he blew my fuckin dick off, caught it in the air, kissed it, and threw it back to me — all while fist pumping and ripping guitar solo at the same time. Guy completely changed my point of view on him, he was ridiculous.
Regarding the statement that Bonnaroo isn’t aimed at finding new music, that certainly might not be their forte, but they still have new acts there. Plus, Bonnaroo is all about bringing the legends. When I can see an up-and-coming act for $10 at a local club, I’ll catch them then. I’m paying the big bucks to see weird ass combos like Willie Nelson, Les Claypool and Chuck D share the stage, even if it sounds shitty.
**NOTE** This combo of artists didn’t actually happen, it’s a hypothetical statement. I’d like to get that out there before anymore little nifkins out there decide to start calling me out with their ridiculous statements and accusations.

So I don’t wanna slam on Roo but honestly, I had absolutley no interest in seeing the Boss last year. Oh and wasn’t Snoop there, is it 1995 or 2009? Roo does put together nice lineups but they are aimed at a crowd that doesn’t really go out and find new music, its aimed at a crowd that has it spoon fed to them or they stumbled upon it a few years too late. And it is still aimed at jam bands, phish headlining 2 nights. I would have wanted to see one night of headlining bands, Phish once, last year at Roo.
Coachella consistently finds up and comming bands and gets them extended exposure. Sure they have had their share of rehashing headliners, Tool, RHCP, and Rage. I will also give you that Killers were a weak headliner last year and Muse is not the most impressive name but go check out their Helsinki Finland 10/22/09 show on youtube, they put on a fuckin riot of a live show. Lat point, who has gotten epic performers the last 2 years, Sir Paul, Roger Waters, Prince, and the Cure.
The festivals are different. You don’t really drink if you go to Coachella, which makes the vibe even better. I don’t have to deal with drunks yelling and talking during shows. People are laid back. And as far as women are concerned, if you don’t like california girls, you my friends are crazy.

When the shit did Muse become big enough to play arenas and headline huge music festivals? I’m not saying they’re a horrible band or anything, but when exactly did this transition happen? Last I checked, they were your standard run-of-the-mill band trying to rip off Radiohead and were being played on the radio once every 3 hours.

Those 3 headliners seem pretty realistic, but I’m not too sure GV will go after Jay-Z, after he just headlined their other festival APW, but who knows. I also don’t think we’ll be lucky enough to get those three big dance acts…one for sure, but that’s probably about it…though I guess maybe Orbital and Basement Jaxx DJ set…I don’t think we’re getting both Orbital AND Underworld.

Well since Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend have both confirmed that the Who are touring next summer, I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to say that they MIGHT play Coachella 2010. …just sayin’
