  1. Also on the official festival site, Charles Hamilton appears to have vanished into thin air. 3 more adds perhaps?

  2. Also don’t know if anyone else saw this but on the festival site, Black Lips and Michael Columbia have switched days. This certainly helps Saturday’s cause, but the Black Lips are still listed very low like they were on Sunday.

  3. I have no idea whether or not there are still bands to be added or not, but since in the past there have been 19 I would assume there would be at least two more to reach that. Saturday is sorely lacking the names compared to Sunday. Even though I really enjoy them and will certainly be seeing them, no way Pains should be listed that high. Hopefully a band like Okkervil River or a band of that notoriety would be added to Saturday.

Sunday could get by with a lesser known band to open the main stages or a middle of the day balance stage act. The Antlers just signed to Frenchkiss, a label pitchfork seems to be fond of, and have a date the following Tuesday in Detroit with Frightened Rabbit, who are also playing that day.

  4. They’ve run 19 in the past. We’re at 18 now.

  5. It’s still uncertain whether there will be any more additions, but I could see Montonix being added. They’re playing a festival in France that Friday, then coming all the way over the NY to play Siren fest the next day (!?!). Their next date is in the UK on the 25th. Would they really come all the way over to the USA for one festival?

Siren Fest is already sharing Built to Spill, Frightened Rabbit, and Japandroids with P4k, so what’s one more? In fact, I could see some of the other acts rounding out the lineup, too, barring any tour conflicts. Half the lineup is already bands from New York, so why not add Bear Hands?

  6. Wait! Where did those latest updates come from??!! Cymbals Eat Guitars and Final Fantasy?!?! YEAH!

  7. What makes you say that tater tots?

  8. I would call it very safe to say the Bowerbirds will be here. Dammit.

  9. Spring is in the air…

  10. Thanks. I could watch any episode of that show over and over and never get tired of it. As far as the list I think at least the first five, as well as Bowerbirds, are certainly within the realm of definite possibility. The last three, while available during that weekend, are indeed nothing more than wishful thinking.

But seriously how kick-ass would any of that be. If we could get at least two or three off that list I’d be thrilled.

  11. @fuzzydunlop

That is some wishful and amazing thinking.
And i dig the Wire reference. Greatest television show in history.

  12. Bowerbirds are also a possibility. They are part of the pitchfork stage at Primavera, and are playing in Indianapolis on July 17th.

  13. That list looks a bit optimistic to me. By my math, we should be getting about 3 more “mainstage” acts (2 on Saturday, 1 on Sunday) and 5 more “sidestage” acts (3 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday).

I agree that it’s already good enough for my hard-earned cash, but I’d be pretty pleased with The Thermals and/or Okkervil River.

  14. Nothing but pure speculation but assuming we get 8 adds to make it 42, I’ll go with the thermals, crystal antlers, crystal stilts, woods, okkervil river, fiery furnaces, the vaselines, and echo and the bunnymen as a Saturday headliner. All of these are free during the dates and will have not have played in Chicago for at least 60 days (correct radius clause length?) by the festival weekend. I’m hoping for adds tomorrow; then we can see wrong I probably am.

  15. Honestly the lineup is already so amazing that I don’t need any stellar final adds to make me happy.

  16. Hiyee. who wants to let me stay with them?? :))
    (No, but seriously.)
I’m kind of nice sometimes… you can even click my name and go visit my myspace.

  17. So, are we getting the final lineup on Friday? Will The Thermals be added? How about Okkervil River? Any brand new acts Pitchfork has been stroking lately?

  18. Three

  19. how many stages does this festival have?

  20. Adds: Beirut, Frightened Rabbit, Lindstrøm, Ponytail, Mae Shi, DJ/Rupture, Dianogah

  21. At The Thermals show last night, Hutch made a reference to coming back to Chicago this summer with a sly grin on his face.
    So, maybe here?

  22. Which is a good thing

  23. Deacon is playing at Lolla so he won’t be at this…

  24. By “wonder” I meant that I doubt we’ll get a bigger name on Saturday.

  25. I’m beginning to wonder if we’ll get a bigger name headliner for Saturday. But I’d love to see more hip hop or dancey stuff. Maybe Mr. Deacon will bless us? Man Man would be great too. Fiery Furnaces just announced a new album coming out in July, so there’s that as well.

  26. That’s pretty late in May to appear at Pitchfork. I think the clause is normally no shows in Chicago in the 90 days preceding the fest. I’d be surprised.

  27. Yeah Yeah Yeahs just announced a tour. There is a chicago show in may but their schedule is clear during the fest.

  28. Aaaand Sonic Youth is out. It’s gotta be the Jicks on Saturday.

  29. I would put the yeah yeah yeahs under rumor considering !) Its Blitz got a review in the 8s and 2) they are not on the lollapalooza line up.

  30. circulatory system would be incredible

  31. I just bought a 3 day pass thanks to the addition of Mew.

  32. MEW! HOLY SHIT!

  33. http://pitchfork.com/news/35099-blitzen-trapper-and-yeasayer-added-to-p4k-fest/

7 new PoFoMoFo adds including Yeasayer and Blitzen Trapper.

  34. If it won’t be Wilco (which was my guess) I think Sonic Youth is a pretty decent bet.

  35. Sonic Youth or Jicks I guess. Maybe Tribe?

  36. i think you guys are looking too big… wilco, pixies, and mbv could all a night of lollapalooza. you need to look at smaller but still influential acts

  37. alright so no wilco. you think the pixies or my bloody valentine could headline? what are some other possibilities?

  38. Wilco already has shows on all three days of Pitchfork in Maine and NY. Sorry to burst your bubbles.

  39. Pitchfork would have to play it smart, but Wilco could happen. We’ll see…

  40. do you guys think there’s a chance of circulatory system being at pitchfork? they’re coming out with a new album and p4k loved their first one.

also how about wilco headlining saturday? they have no chicago dates and havent been mentioned in any lolla leaks and they played lolla last year. new album coming out too.

  41. Fucked Up = MASSIVELY over-rated.

  42. ADDED, via pitchfork.com -

    Black Lips
    Fucked Up
    Wavves

and more… those were just the ones i saw that i got excited about.

  43. Also department of eagles makes sense since grizzly bear will be there.

  44. Hopefully because of the Flaming Lips catastrofuck, there will be some new acts this Friday. Wavves, Ponytail, Plants & Animals, and the Black Lips could all obviously be announced. Probably a Wolf Parade band (Sunset Rubdown, Handsome Furs), Royksopp, Bonnie Prince Billy, Alela Diane, Crystal Stilts or Antlers, Yeasayer, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Fever Ray, and so on. Nothing but guesses here but make sense and would be great.

  45. That fast? So lame.

  46. Ok … no more pick the setlist … updated on Pitchfork …

  47. I’m going to Coachella this year, but of all the festivals I cant go to in the US this is the one I’m most jealous about.

  48. damn festival whores

  49. nice work Johnny J!

  50. damn… spoon to the flaming lips… big step up from last year

  51. Getting to pick the setlist makes the Flaming Lips show 100 times better. I really hope the people voting know how cool it would be to hear something other than the handful of songs they’ve been playing for the last decade.

Aw, who am I kidding? I’m sure everyone will just beg for the same handful of songs they’ve been playing at every single show.

  52. This show is going to be saweet!

  53. Flaming Lips confirmed via Kot!!! We pick the setlist, they are closing out Sunday.

  54. anyone think phoenix might be possible?

  55. I’m with Chi and don’t buy the Flaming Lips rumor. Besides, they’d only get an hour and with all of Wayne’s antics, theatrics, and speeches, they’d play maybe 6 songs. Also there’s a Plants and Animals confirmation floating around so you should probably add them to the confirmed list CoS. Also, bring Antony please.

  56. I heard the LOLcats are playing.

  57. I can has moar rumors, plz?

  58. what is the source for the confirmation of the flaming lips and would they be headlining sunday?

  59. I’m crossing my fingers for Sonic Youth headlining Saturday or Sunday… and a Deerhunter appearance would be fuckin wonderful as well. And hopefully a Ponytail set early in the day? Maybe?

  60. Cymbals eat guitars got a ‘best new music’ tag from pitchfork so it wouldn’t surprise me if they’re there. If any younger band gets that from them in the before the festival they are usually end up playing.

  61. I’m crossing my fingers for MF Doom, Harvey Milk, Dalek, TV on the Radio, The Thermals, Antony & the Johnsons, Akron/Family, and possibly M83 (as long as they don’t play anything from their new album).

  62. plants and animals CHECK

  63. Remember Yoko Ono? Not exactly a festival whore but certainly not their first pick.

  64. I’m not buying Flaming Lips.

While they are pretty popular around PoFo (sometimes) I think that they like to do different things with the festival…I just don’t see them bringing in such a festival whore as a headliner.

Beyond that…PoFo has been rather critical of the circus Flaming Lips live shows have turned into. I could maybe see them bringing them in another year if they can get them to agree to do the Friday night thing and play either a stripped down set chosen by fans or perform Soft Bulletin.

  65. Not a gigantic surprise I suppose.

  66. Wavves and Ponytail will also be playing at Pitchfork. They were forbidden by Pitchfork to play a different festival the week after Chicago.

  67. Johnny J is my source.

Seriously, i heard it is going to happen. and no Andrew Bird as he is playing Lolla with the Decemberists.

  68. Did your dog tell you this? They’d be perfect at P-Fork, but whats your source?

  69. While I am shocked by this, I heard that the Flaming Lips will be headlining the festival this year. we will see how that plays out…

  70. what do you guys think about andrew bird playing pitchfork?

  71. Roffmaaaaaaan!

  72. You sonofabitch, Young!

  73. Michael Roffman’s apartment is available. ;)

  74. The Marriott Medical District is about one mile south on Ashland. Can be pricey, though.

  75. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in the general vicinity?

    Thanks!

  76. do you have a source tater tots?

  77. You can add Plants & Animals to that confirmed list.

  78. Omg…I shit myself.

  79. By “loop” I’m mean downtown Chicago. Sorry, Chicago jargon.

  80. No camping nor do you want to camp for this fest as it’s on the west side of Chicago. I suggest hotwiring a hotel located in the loop by the green line train. Then just take the green line right to the fest. Easy-smeasy.

  81. is this a camping festival or what? ive never been and thinkin about it this year…anyone got any info, advice, or tidbits for me? preciate it. peace easy

  82. Jesus Lizard!

  83. Excellent start!!! Can’t wait to get all sweaty in Union Park!

  84. This still leaves roughly 34 bands to be announced. Yeah!

  85. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jesus Lizard, Built to Spill, Tortoise and Yo La Tengo on Friday night (playing sets hand selected by the fans!!)

    and

The National, Pharoahe Monch and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart on July 18

Grizzly Bear, the Walkmen and Vivian Girls on July 19.

    The National!!! Yeah!!!

    http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/2009/03/the-jesus-lizard-to-open-pitchfork-festival-with-set-list-handpicked-by-fans.html

  86. Last two posts make plenty of sense.

  87. What about Built to Spill playing perfect from now on as part of the Don’t Look Back Series?

  88. i’d bet The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will be there… pfork has been blowing them a lot lately…

  89. Also Neko Case is due to play this thing, they’ve had everyone else from the New Pornographers play individually (Carl and Dan), plus the whole band. Sooo…she’s due.

  90. Soooo I’d be shocked if they don’t make their first round of announcements this Friday, seeing that tickets go on sale the next week (or at the latest the first round is announced that day, but I’d say we’d get a like 4-6 Saturday/Sunday bands and one friday band announced this friday. With Black Lips being one of thoes Sat/Sunday bands, because the cats out of the bag, and who are they fooling by not announcing them.)

  91. I’m betting on The Mae Shi this year. I can hope anyway. That would be great.

  92. What would we do without you, Driftwood?

  93. The above is a pretty decent list but again I think Portishead having been a co-headliner at Coachella until the Prince addition might mean they are too big for Pitchfork. Here is the SXSW Pitchfork Party line-up (6 bands from here played PoFoMoFo last year - early mainstages / smaller stage). Count out Dirty Projectors and King Khan for playing last year. School of Seven Bells, Diplo and Pains of Being Pure at Heart from your list are very likely.

    12:00 - Girls (Emo’s Jr.)
    12:30 - The Mae Shi (Emo’s)
    1:00 - Little Boots (Emo’s Jr.)
    1:30 - Max Tundra (Emo’s)
2:00 - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (Emo’s Jr.)
    2:30 - Woods (Emo’s)
3:00 - School of Seven Bells (Emo’s Jr.)
    3:30 - Wavves (Emo’s)
    4:00 - Dirty Projectors (Emo’s Jr.)
    4:30 - King Khan & the Shrines (Emo’s)
    5:00 - A-Trak/Diplo (Emo’s Jr.)
    5:30 - Department of Eagles (Emo’s)

  94. Nas performing Illmatic
Cat Power performing the Covers Record
    Suicide performing 1st LP
    Portishead
    The Decemberists
    Aphex Twin
    Panda Bear
    Boredoms
    Antony and the Johnsons
    Gang Gang Dance
    Kimya Dawson
    Liars
    Diplo
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
    Los Campesinos!
    Mono
    The Cool Kids
    School of Seven Bells
    Asobi Seksu
    Kid Sister
    Flosstradamus

  95. Not huge here as in relative to what they are in Europe, which is a band that can fill stadiums. A band that can fill stadiums in one part of the world will take a slight reduction in pay for new markets but we are still talking big money. Wilco may be a bigger deal but would cost significantly less $$$ than Blur so you could get the interest of music fans at a fraction of the cost. As I pointed out, Jarvis was the no.2 act on a day. Pulp and Blur would be no.2 acts at worst (Blur possibly a headliner) at Coachella. They won’t play Pitchfork.

  96. ‘WAY too big’ yet ‘not huge here’…I kind of feel Wilco performing YHF (in Chicago) is even bigger, though it is curious the time that has passed since their last Chicago performance knowing they won’t be at Lolla.

  97. If you are looking for possible larger acts, Wilco’s tour dates lend themselves for a stop-over at PoFoMoFO weekend. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at Don’t Look Back?

  98. Blur at Pitchfork? WAY too big. I do believe there is a shot that some bigger names than usual could be grabbed (Belle & Sebastian?) with a slight hike in prices, but Blur would be ridiculous (though a wet dream). Sonic Youth and Public Enemy are the biggest acts Pitchfork has gotten and even though Blur is not huge here, they are not going to play for the money Pitchfork would like to spend (not to mention there would have to be an extensive tour, otherwise that tiny venue would be decimated. Jarvis Cocker was the second biggest act on his day so how do you think a Pulp reunion would be billed? Hope for Blur at Lolla (still unlikely).

Also if you want to know most of the bands playing the smaller stage, check out the SXSW Pitchfork party. Tons of bands last year played both PoFoMoFo and their party at SXSW.

  99. I’ve been thinking the same thing.

  100. What about blur headlining? They finish their European tour on the 11th and have no US dates. Pitchfork seems like the perfect venue for them.

  101. MSTRKRFT & the Presets would be great too

  102. the line-up posted above is great. i would most excited for tv, atony/ hercules, pains, and black lips. i really cant wait to see the rest of the line-up.

  103. and Beirut.

  104. that would be a great lineup. TV, little joy, blitzen trapper + black lips

  105. Let’s say TV on the Radio, Antony/Hercules, Phosphorescent, Simian Mobile Disco, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, the Mae Shi, Blitzen Trapper, Little Joy, Sasha & Digweed maybe. Oh and Black Lips BNM.

  106. Mainly because I find them uninteresting. And annoying.

  107. Why not Ted Jones? My secret hope is that Pitchfork and C3 make an agreement and have the Decemberits play at both so long as they play different sets (new albulm in entirety at Pitchfork, regular set Lolla or something to the effect of the Short and the Long of it tour).

  108. I sure hope not.

  109. i think im gonna go ahead and call the decemberists headlining this one, seeing as chicago gets left out of their upcoming tour… so its either this or lolla and theyd be great at both

  110. The myspace link next to the Black Lips sends me to the Airborne Toxic Event
