WTF!?
The Flaming Lips were supposed to play Rock Werchter (Belgium) on July 3rd but then cancelled in order to play “an American festival”. No this “American festival” says that the Lips are in Europe at that time? I’m confused…
they added bands on the main page… and killed the rumor of the flaming lips playing on their twitter.
My excitement for the Bury has caused my patience to wear. Lets get some sort of update. It seems like the last official update was 2 months ago. I will be there regardless, but I still really want to see the additions. Hopefully tomorrow.

I heard June 1 as well, Allen. Flaming Lips are a go, and I’m not sure about Ween, though it would be a good fit. Bassnectar posted on his myspace the evening the lineup came out saying Bassnectar will not be at Rothbury this summer. At first I thought they were putting us on, but now it seems that he will not be there.
It is a strange thing indeed to see one negatively toned message spark so many responses, and a positive message can spur no response even when asking for one.
Its going to be a great weekend. So any word on additions? An admin from a board said june 1. Seems like the lips will be there, any chance for WEEN? Bassnectar is also needed, it seems odd that they would not invite him back. His set last year was the closer to the best night of live music I’ve seen, Thievery Corporation to Primus to Bassnectar. I need friday late night.
Talk about a buzz kill. Can’t we all just get along? Go for the music, the party, the people, the shopping, the art, the dancing, the fresh air, the trees, the dead- who cares! Have fun! THAT is what made Rothbury so great last year- there were SO many kinds of people all “vibing” on their own thing (some even discovered new things!)! All are welcome! PLEASE don’t let some anonymous someone discourage you from attending for as long as you want or leaving when you have to. Just remember to smile and respect your neighbors!

I agree that rothbury is a top notch festival. However, if you have been there, done it and can’t go the full four days why not “help the festival, help myself” by going two days. I also agree that the first couple of days are the best but if I can only catch some good tunes for the couple days that I can go why not. Sorry for voicing an opinion to a bunch of gay fish!

I feel bad for all of you hating on Rothbury. I was there last year and the two day just doesn’t do it. This festival is about the vibe and people. The Lineup is also spectacular. I’m not sweating the headliners because this is going to be an amazing four days. I hope the vibe stays in this fest.
We all know why they came out with the two day tickets “your mom”. Yes its cheaper and you can work on Friday, all that is known. Think about the festival, the release of the two day tickets indicates lack of sales and a drastic change in the general format of the festival, a format that made Rothbury stand out amongst the rest. Also anybody who attended last year would know that friday night was the tops. Help yourself, help the festival, go for all four days.
Coolness and d-bags, your mom has got it! Everyone should read what your mom posts, his rational ideas and mature attitude can help us all. His open mindedness and his eloquence can show us the way. He not only seems to be aware of peoples priorities, but also knows dicks and d-bags. Being politically correct makes him comfy, but hes really just as worried and uptight as the rest of these festival snobs. Sad to not be going for the whole weekend, but trying to stay upbeat so as to not become outcast.
perhaps some people can only attend sat/sun and were not willing to spend 270 to see 2 days worth of shows. now that they offer this, some other people can go who went last year and go to other festivals. its a good option for certain people who have other priorities. so stop being a dick and realize that as cool as you may think you are, you come off as a total d-bag.
Your missing all of Thursday and Friday pal, I feel sorry for you, anybody who bases a festival on headliners has never been to a festival and should not attend a real one like Rothbury if you do not know what it is worth. Two day tickets are lame, it allows people (like the fellow below) that are not real festival goers to attend, these are people who heard about last year and feel like they cant miss what their friends are doing, even if it means doing it half-assed. I feel bad for rothbury too if people like the fellow below attend on a cheaper less involved state of mind, the festival will be hurt. Anybody thinking about buying a weak two day ticket, rethink, you will miss a fair amount and you will be putting less back into the festival community. The guys comment below reminds me of what I read about the Olson Twins at Bonnaroo last year, fly in and see headliners and leave. You probably dont want to camp either, huh guy?

Phish will NOT be playing rothbury. On Bonnaroo’s website they recently added that bonnaroo will be Phish’s ONLY summer festival performance.Hopefully the Lips will bring their spaceship to Roth!See you all on the farm…

Weekend tickets at Rothbury, just Saturday and Sunday. Any comments on whether this is a good or bad thing? Seems like the festival is struggling to sell tickets.
So are the updates on the Festival Outlook page from yesterday or does the site have the wrong date?
For everyone else, it’s looking like no additions until June 1st. This comes from one of the administrators on infobury, who claims that the info comes directly from Roth. IMO this reinforces the Phish conspiracies, but I also feel it could be a HUGE mistake on Roth’s behalf if they don’t have a BIG announcement that day in the form of an addition like Phish, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, or someone that can bring in shit tons of ticket sales.
Sorry douschebaggery, I was going off a friend that insisted that Red Light and Madison were affiliated. I have since looked shite up and found no connection. My bad. Not to be a naysayer though, but in looking them up, red light also represents a bunch of crappy performers as well.
I believe you are getting madison house mixed up with red light, who takes care of phish, dmb, and a bunch more artists. Madison house deals with mainly a bunch of crappy jambands.
Its 250 per ticket to start, plus fees. Some complained, I found it to be a steal. Did I mention STS9!!!

hey question. I want to go im a little confused at the tickets. can someone explan in detail how much it would cost me and 5 people to go there for the weekend. are the tickets for each person 23 dollars for the whole weekend and the camping is 250???
Should get 15 more bands announced in the next week. This is according to a radio station outside of Rothbury, MI. They were affiliated with the fest last year, and advertise the festival like crazy.

I think the only reason people want additions is to compete with the other festivals. This is only the second year of the fest and according to the promoter the ticket sales are down 25%. That’s a lot, and if they don’t do something about it, your looking at trouble for the future of the fest. Would I like a more Jam orientated fest to stick around? Yes, but there needs to be compromise to keep this festie afloat. That being said, I LOVE the line-up thus far, and already bought my ticket. I am however interested in some additions, primarily because in my opinion there is only one headliner right now, the Dead. SCI will play late-night I would hope. There is no way Dylan is headlining, he’ll prefer to play during the day. That leaves room for some BIG announcements. Most likely Neil Young and a late addition of Phish (like they did with Trey last year). I think the fest would be beyond perfect with the Dead on the 4th, and Phish closing out the weekend on Sunday (a great way to keep people there all the way to the end).

Bob Dylan is the only one i would disagree with but w/e it’s still Bob Dylan. They also have a good reggae scene and rapper who hasn’t sold out for the stupid-ass electronic voice that douchebags like T-Pain and Kanye use. It’s going to be a hippie fest and everyone there is going to have great time feeding off of each other. It’s going to be an experience beyond any other and Rothbury doesn’t need Colplay or Pearl Jam or TOOL, it’ll change the scene too much

^^^Well for one there was no definite that Rothbury was going to happen at all when Phish signed on for Roo, so that’s probably why they signed. The reason they would want to get out of the contract now would be that Rothbury is run by Madison House which is also Phish’s representation.

-the phish contract problem is legit, as per a friend i have working for ROO, and as far as ive heard phish’s lawyers are actively trying to get that clause lifted, but as far as ive heard to no avail, as thats why bonnaroo gave them 2 nights.
-dave matthews, theivery corporation, michael franti, 311, mars volta are officially NOT going to be there as they have other dates the same weekend.
so with that being said is it safe to say rothbury is actively pursuing 2 more headlining acts? are the allman’s, jack johnson, tool being coonsidered as well?
I could have sworn Phish said Bonnaroo was going to be their only big festival performance as they are more or less promoting their tour more than anything. And wasn’t there some article recently discussing Phish hosting their own festival or some shit? This festival media hub is really starting to break my balls.

Well The Dead were never playing 2 nights. Festivals like 10KL and Roo both announce when a headliner is doing 2 nights(ie. WSP and Phish) and Rothbury would have done it with The Dead if that was the case.

pretty sure that this is sci’s only show of 2009 and the first time they will be together since maybe 07, sorry if im wrong, and remember the dead have not been together for a while. it also does not hurt that bob phil bill mickey and bob dylan are living legends. and as for the “fresh bands”. fuck that. i dont need a lame act at a true hippie fest. claypool sts9 bisco broken soc scene lotus are fresh and innovative. there are great jam bands. over all this is an amazing initial lineup. throw in animal collective and sigur ros and keep acts like nin and sringstein away and ill definitely not be at bonnaroo this year. ill miss phish though…. but they will be in pittsburgh. and phish grew out of the dead. so. yea.

Didn’t know what to expect this year. At first I will admit I was a bit disapointed in the headliners. After much thought I realized that I am actually really happy with this lineup. While the headliners are great shows to see, I think I had the most fun at some of the smaller shows last year. The Ranch arena was an amazing time, not to mention what Sherwood will be like. Michigan could use the support right now! I’ll see everyone in July!!!!

Early bird tickets are already sold out, announcement from offical website on lineup will offically be out by friday at latest from the offical site. I have a feeling they will have Radiohead and probably another huge name like The Dead or Tom Petty all being they are charging $240 for early bird tickets and they are already sold out…i guess we will wait and see

True, there’s no public transportation, but Rothbury calls itself a green/sustainable event. They have ticket options for further offsetting your carbon footprint in traveling to the festival. That’s all up Radiohead’s alley. Much more likely to have them play here than Coachella ever again, honestly.

Umphrey’s McGee makes me want to puke. Saw them at this bar called Otto’s in Dekalb, IL around 1999/2000, drank to much of this and took to much of that and I puked. Never liked them because of that experience plus their music isn’t really good in my opinion. Which means nothing.
I paid 250 last year and didn’t even see all the headliners and this fest was wayyy worth it. Nightlife is like no other, EOTO and bassnectar, wow. Pay the money even if the lineup isn’t all you wanted it to be, I won’t pay though unless there is at least one big named band that I like. BUT, if you like fests and have not been to Rothbury, you missed out and need to go to 09.
If they don’t add Phish or the Dead then they better have Radiohead or this festival is sunk. There are too many rad things to do this summer then spend $300 on a festival with no huge players.

From what I heard it is Late night Kanye, he claims he will be able to redeem himself. The other big one I have heard that is not up there is a STP show headlining Friday.

MMJ is taking off the summer but Jim James is touring, so he might be there. You never know though, if Roth asks MMJ to headline they might do it. In my opinion MMJ is very close to being a headliner, so why not make Rothbury there first.

I just wish they’d drop the lineup soon. I’m torn apart right now deciding whther I should go to Ultra Fest in miami with loads of electronica, or hold out and hope that this lineup one ups Bonaroo (if thats even possible). Would love to see MMJ. Rothbury needs to pick up some of the gigs that got cancelled due to the Langerado Incident.

Someone came throug and bought out the ranch and has agreed to continue the festival on his recently aquired property. So the fest was never struggling with funds and will not be held back in signing big names.

I have seen modest mouse three times live and they always put on a great energetic show. They were at roth last year, I would love to see them there again, as far as the white stripes are concerned there presence alone along with someone like the dead and then some late night elecronic and jam bands would make the perrrrfect festival

Ill believe the dead, or white stripes, or niel young but I will not believe ac/dc. I dont know if rothbury really wants to risk hurting their fan base so much with a hard rock headliner. Just look at last years reaction to metallica at bonnaroo. All in all, it must be realized that this festival was on the verge of bankruptcy. They are going to be a lot more cautious this year with their lineup. They dont want to bite off more than they can chew, so dont be surprised if it is a slight downgrade from last years lineup
I am going to put an end to some of these rumors. There will be no phish. Perhaps members of phish will be there, but not the band as a whole. Radiohead???? yeah right! Radiohead is finishing up their practically year long world tour next month in South America. They will be taking a break from touring, spending time with their families and working on their next album. How is an almost bankrupt festival supposed to afford radiohead while they are not ever on tour

It would be huge if Rothbury could book even one of those band. I’m interested what they will do with the 2nd and 3rd tier bands. Hopefully they will announce something soon and put some tickets on sale so I finalize my plans for the 2009 summer of fun tour! I’ll do my part for the economy, I’ll just spend all my money on music.

Melissa - EOTO and Panic were there last year, as well as Claypool although he was with Primus, which was sick. I would LOVE to see the Dead there, maybe some Allman Brothers. Coldplay would be cool, I’m not a huge fan but heard they are sick live. How about Robert Plant with Allison Krause, and maybe Ray LaMontagne.
I would love to re-create last years fest but also would love love to see tons of new stuff as well!

It sounds like the lineup won’t be announced for a few more weeks. It seems that they are a little behind b/c of all the bankruptcy issues so probably were a little behind in booking all of the bands, they are announcing the official dates today though. I know everyone assumed the 4th weekend but they are announcing that officially today
