1. STP are playing the sunday if you want to put that somewhere.

2. Nick, how do you know that??

3. And (if anyone cares) Jack Johnson is Saturday since it is doing APW on Sunday.

4. Looks like jack and the Foos are on Saturday. It all depends on the middle of the lineup for me…

5. Richard sure is taking his sweet time announcing the rest of the thing.

Hurry up already man!

6. man i want the line-up to be posted so bad

7. Man, this festival would be unreal if they could get MUSE and Bloc Party. Those two are bands I have gotten into in the last 2 years and have missed seeing them live. I heard they were rumored/confirmed, but lets hope thats true!

8. if they got muse i would be so excited. the last two times i saw them were at bamboozle and then MSG. and i know STP is playing sunday because it says so on their tour dates i believe. when they were put up on this site it said sunday august 10th.

9. I want RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

10. Come on Richard… go ahead and announce the rest of the lineup.

My fingers are crossed for Underworld. They’ll be in NY on Friday, why not take the 3 hour drive down I-95 to Baltimore for the weekend?

11. even if its a long drive, its so worth it though, i went last year and it was a blast. the headliners get long sets with encores as opposed to everyone else who had 45 min ones. it sucked last year when incubus was only alotted 50 minutes to play during the middle of the day (non-headliner). also, 311 was annoucned after the headliners but they were given a full set on the second stage, closing out the second day while smashing pumpkins played the main stage. this sucked cuz i love 311 but have seen them over 5 times live where I needed to see SP.

side note- I saw the foo fighters in philly about two months ago, it was amazing. im sure an outdoor show would be just as good. dave grohl is so funny and he loves talking to the crowd.

how about REM??

12. LINEUP PLZ

13. Looking at their itinerary, it looks like REM is in Europe around then. Then again, they don’t have anything scheduled around the festival dates, so you never know. Watched the Foos’ MSG show on TV last night and was pretty impressed. I’m really excited to see Gogol Bordello (hear they’re pretty wild live).

14. Could Wilco be joining this fest? They are in the area and an open date on 8/9 (Saturday) and the play Delaware on Sunday.

15. yea…well don’t count on any of these bands being present…

http://www.summersonic.com/

that freaking fest in tokyo on the same dates as v-fest kills many of the second tier bands they should have gotten…

16. “Could Wilco be joining this fest?”

The guys at the Washington Post have said on their VMoFest Predicitons blog they think there’s a good shot of Wilco showing up (and they were right about predicting the Foos and STP). Here’s hoping they’re right…

17. bands i think could be announced:

Muse-supposedly confirmed, a mini-headliner
Bloc Party-supposedly confirmed
REM-new album-a stretch but who knows
Daft Punk-biggest dance/techno act to star at festvial
Gnarls Barkly-new album, widely popular, good festival band
Three Days Grace-playing v-fest calgary in june
Weezer-new album-long shot but who knows
The Offspring-new album june, new tour??
Say Anything-rejected last year from Vfest
Gavin Rossdale- ex-bush frontman, now solo
Beck-another possibility
Matisyahu-maybe he will return, he was such a hit last year

these are all based on probablilty and availability, just guesses

18. there were so many indie bands last year it was great hopefully they get alot this year. im thinking they will announce it like next week

19. Bergy, Some of those could be right…though I highly doubt Virgin Fest will have any repeats only being in their third year…so eliminate Gnarls and Matisyahu

I think Muse and Bloc Party will be there too…Daft Punk I would love to be there, but they are a headliner type band and I’m not sure they will add any more of those

I wish they would announce the damn thing already, I’m so close to screwing Vfest to make plans to travel to Lolla

20. Terry,

I know what you mean, but vfest is pretty much the last festival to announce everything. when you take that long, you aren’t going to disappoint. trust me, the next round of announcements will be good.

for example, last year after they announced the headliners, the rest of the lineup included big name acts such as 311, incubus, crystal method, velvet revolver, interpol and modest mouse.

your probably right about repeats, but damn matisyahu is amazing live…you gotta see him hes unreal good

21. Yea, I saw him at the last HFStival they had two years ago…which also had Kanye, who I’m not thrilled about…I’m not really a huge reggae and dub fan, but what I saw of him wasn’t too bad…

But I hope you’re right about why they’re taking so long…cause it could also be because all of their top choices already made other summer obligations and they’re struggling to fill the spots with bands that will draw people…

Though, I have to admit, the techno tent has been worth the admission alone both years of this vfest thing so far…im liking the three confirmed acts so far in the tent too…

22. lineup next week

i wish it was tommarow

23. I am making up my list of the ultimate virgin festival. Maybe I am too mainstream, but seriously these bands are at least possible and I want them.
Possibilities after the initial five:
1.)Black Keys(there will be some bands from lolla there)
2.)Rage against the machine(u don’t come back overseas to do one show in north America and be done, f-that I am guaranteeing them.)
3.)Kings of Leon(Virgin needs them)
4.)kt tunstall(they always get one chick and it could be worse ie.-amy bitchass winehouse again)
5.)Blues Traveler(I love Blues traveler)
6.)Jane’s Addiction(everyone can say I am full of crap on that call but if it happens you can all eat me)
7.)Beck(Anyone ever see Beck live? He’s amazing)
8.)Weezer(I don’t even think that one will happen but i threw it in there)
9.)Black Crowes(Why….?why not…?)

24. Kanye has V-Fest listed as 8/9/08 on his site. So based on the stuff thats already been said, it looks like the headliner breakdown is: Foos, Kanye, JJ on Saturday… and STP / NIN on Sunday.

25. They will likely have jack johnson play in the middle of the day on saturday, around 3-4 pm. then kanye on the main stage followed by the foos who will close saturday out.

same as last yr-beasties (rap group) followed by the police on the main stage day 1.

phill, nice list man. im hoping fore weezer too. man if they got rage thatd be insane. blues traveler came to my college 2 years ago, hes alot of fun live.

cmon with the real lineup!

26. Daft Punk as announced that they are not playing any shows in 2008, so you can pretty much scratch them off the list.

Given Wilco’s recent tour schedule, they pretty much confirmed.

I’m praying for Underworld. That would be awesome.

27. Just because Kanye has his date listed as the ninth does not mean he is plaiyng on saturday. He always lists the first date of every festival he is playing as the date of the show (until the show schedule is actually confirmed).

Foo & JJ on saturday

and then NIN, Kanye, and STP on sunday makes the most sense to me.

28. I’m curious how Kanye makes sense with any of those headliners…or why he is even at this festival? Just my opinion…

29. Yeah i’m figuring Wilco too…. They will be on 8/9 so it is looking like I will have to be there for it since Wilco and jack are both not playing Florida….

Hopefully they will put some other solid bands on Saturday as well.

30. What day is the full lineup released?

31. Seth Hurwitz (promoter) says next week on the 9:30 Club forum. I’m dying here! I can’t go Saturday, so I’m a little bummed that bland STP ended up on Sunday, though there will probably be someone awesome on another stage at the same time. Super excited about Nine Inch Nails. If Muse really does end up being the sixth headlining band, and they’re on Sunday, it will be set in stone for me. If Kanye is booked Saturday, I think it could happen. And if the support bands are as awesome this year as last year, this could really be a great fest.

32. Ah nevermind, missed a post. Seth says full lineup on 4.28

33. hey what about the dance tent, rabbit in the moon is one hell of a live stage act and paul van dyk has that weekend open i think. last year vfest had an amazing dance tent. they have to take it one step further. i to agree more big acts will be named and they will not dissapoint. it’s gonna rock

34. Jaco, I hear you man. The dance tent is where i’ll be most of the weekend. So far we’ve got RITM, Pendulum (live), and Deadmua5, which is awesome so far.

I’m praying for Underworld, they’re in NYC on Friday, why not take the 3 hour drive down I95 to Baltimore?

35. if The Replacements in fact reunite this summer, i’d freak if they hooked up with Virgin for a late addition. cmonnn Westerberg!

36. Wilco was confirmed in the latest edition of Spin magazine.

37. Someone posted on Wiki that Taking Back Sunday (or Fasalo, as it’s written) reported on their myspace page that they were confirmed…but after looking there, I don’t see a mention about Virgin Fest yet…

38. hopefully that is not true.

39. Hey Terry,

Looks like Taking Back Fasolo is different from Taking Back Sunday. They appear to be a humorous band, much along the lines of Gogol Bordello. http://www.myspace.com/TakingBackFasolo is the link, and they did indeed announce that they’re playing.

40. Oh….got you…thanks…When clicking on the hyperlink on Wiki, it would take you to Taking Back Sunday’s page, so I just assumed it an error or some joke I didn’t get…

but umm, is this Taking Back Fasolo for real? this is horrendous…I think that is just some kid named joe fasolo who thought it’d be funny to put his name in songs…and get attention by saying he’ll be at Virgin Fest…

41. im pretty sure that dude just put up he was playing there, he sucks and i have no idea why he would be there

42. there is no way this person is for real. hoax, bullshit and just not happening.

43. Dude, Chuck Berry is playing Virgin Festival, looks like August 9th. It’s on the Virgin Fest Wiki, and it’s posted on his official website, so there’s little doubt that this is legit.

44. can someone link me to that Virginfest wiki?

45. thanks terry. i thought that was it, but people were druding up all sorts of info that i hadn’t seen on there. i guess since its wiki, then anyone can write on it and if its false it gets deleted quick.

thanks.

46. supposedly chuck berry is confirmed

47. ohh yea, that reminds me anon…i think i heard that foo fighters were also confirmed…anyone know if this is true? also some jack johnson cat…whoever the hell that is…

48. Rage Against the Machine would be so awesome, but I fear that if they were coming, they would have already been announced with the other 5 “headliners”.

Last night I saw Tom Morello doing a killer rockin Nightwatchman show collaboration with members of Cypress Hill, MC5, and others….was fabulous.

49. this lineup sucks

50. Then don’t go dumba**

51. They need to just announce the F’in lineup already. I need to know if I have to fly to Lolla or what.

52. actually this lineup is pretty decent. if they fill it in with a decent mid bill, they will be doing all right

Sun 08/10/08 Stone Temple Pilots
Sun 08/10/08 Taking Back Sunday
Sun 08/10/08 The Black Keys

54. If this is the lineup, I’m disappointed slightly…while it is still solid, it does not even compete with last years bill…taking back sunday and paramore are so shitty and I don’t see them fitting in well with some of the other bands.

55. anon 5 49: that isnt the full lineup. i doubt that is at least. there are 10 less bands sunday. i doubt it would be that uneven with such a little amount of bands.

56. fuck this if this is the real line-up for virgin fest

57. dude, that lineup is so weak compared to last years and the year befores. who cares about those rappers and fuck all that other shit.

58. i dunno whats so bad about it. half of the bands they listed will more then likely be at the dance tent anyway. as far as the hip-hop artists this year, about the best they can get for 2008 if ya ask me is definitely Lil Weezy + Lupe Fiasco (on top of Kanye already). Bloc Party, BRMC, Iggy Pop, + The Black Keys? now thats a badass group of artists.

59. black keys suck this year, they’re new cd is downhill

60. full line up on the site!

61. Sunday>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Saturday

62. Well, looks like it’s off to Lolla-land. Day 1 V-Fest is shite except for Foo and Bloc Party, and they’re not worth $100 by themselves.

63. bob dylan is a nice addition. it just doesnt stand up to last years though

64. Personally, i think that the additions of Offspring, Bloc Party, Bob Dylan are all really solid. Day 2 is still lacking a bit, look for another add before the show (muse!)

I HOPE I won’t have a conflict of interest by having to choose between offspring/bloc party/foo/jack johnson.

who do you think are guaranteed acts on the main stage? who will close?

65. What a disappointment… the lineup started out strong; however, the second round of acts announced today are lame, with the exception of the dance tent acts.

66. Blah…Now is the dance tent alone worth the admission? That is what I need to figure out…Underworld, Moby, Soulwax, and Chromeo are exciting adds on top of RITM, Pendulum, and Deadmau5.

This years themes are obviously old rockers, rappers, and indie chicks…can’t say I’m fan of those three…

Definitely going to Lolla, the few non-dance tent acts Id like to see are also there…

67. i dig it the lineup alot, lets face it, it blows all points west away

68. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for Janes Addiction.. Unlikely but man it would be sweet that played together not to long ago and I mean all of them, the original 4.

69. The week after Perry Farrell basically runs Lollapalooza?!?!? Yea, I think that’s extremely unlikely for you…

70. An amazingly stacked line up. Especially Sunday. The only thing I’m a little put off by is their claim that there will be two main stages and no secondary stage. Probably OK for Saturday (makes it easy to avoid Jack Johnson) but there will be some major conflicts on Sunday toward the end of the day. I’d want to see something where all the groups with a younger audience (Taking Back Sunday, Wayne, Kanye) are all put over to one side so that I can see NIN, Dylan, Stooges, and STP without overlap.

71. This lineup is not bad at all. If you aren’t into these bands than just don’t go. I had not heard of some of these bands so I downloaded some stuff last night. I have to say that after listening to the whole lineup of bands I feel more excited about going. I was there last year also and was pleasantly surprised then too at some of the acts that I had never heard of. This festival tries to mix an eclectic group of performers and I think they have achieved that again this year. While I was holding my breath for Muse or Rage Against the Machine I am still satisfied with this and look forward to seeing you all there in August (I just hope Scott Weiland gets out of jail and doesn’t kill himself before the show!) Also, maybe I am getting old but I appreciate that where else can you see Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan and Iggy Pop all at once before they quit performing forever?

72. Great lineup. Major props for Underworld - I have to see them before I die. You’ll see me in the dance tent with the exception of NIN.

73. im stoked there will be bloc party, duffy, lupe, + underworld all in the same day!

74. duffy is bad.

75. any predictions on schedule? is it true they have two main stages this year?

76. They essentially had two main stages last year.

77. nah the side stage was much smaller, im afraid small bands wont be able to handle such a stage

78. not that much smaller

79. im sure there will be add-ons to the line-up they added on last year

80. In my opinion the saturday lineup is the day that is loaded.-foofighters, wilco, offspring, the swell season, citizen cope, duffy-i’m even kinda looking forward to seeing cute ass kt tunstall and bitchass jack johnson(as long as he does older stuff. I am not a fan of his new album(doesn’t he know everyone has eyes?)
Sunday has me a little bummed, i am excited to see moby even though i would rather it not be a dj set cuz I think it’s gonna lack a lot of his older songs, I am really excited about the black keys and STP-i just wanna hear NIN play head like a hold and maybe iggy play the passenger-Bob Dylan and chuck Berry can’t perform anymore(age has gotten the best of them and if you don’t believe me check out youtube for their latest performances),but yeah sunday needs some help-virgin hid the bob dylan slot well from people, maybe they have another hidden gem for a sunday slot like RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, and Kings of leon would be perfect for virgin fest, it fits their demographic really well. Both are available at august 10th. and since a third band is short on sunday I am gonna say they should add weezer because by then weezer will have decided tour dates. Incredibly top heavy?yeahincredibly awesome?yeah…will they do it?uhhh…..

81. muse, weezer or rage for the final bill on sunday.

does anyone think offspring will conflict with foo fighters?
bloc party to perform earlier in the day?

82. It seems like a lot of the Blog music fans out there are all agreeing that Saturday is the most loaded day, but I’d have to disagree, Sunday has 4 Major Headliners. And while I prefer the saturday lineup, I think Sunday’s big 4 has more of a draw for the general public.

I think we will see one major act added to saturday, and a few mid and small level acts to both of the other days.

83. hey Phil if you need something to see on Sunday then check out rabbit in the moon, seeing them live is nothing like watching them on your computer or TV. they are one of the best at making the show come to you and being her dance tent sounds like it might be a bit bigger this year they are the act of all acts at virgin and that’s just they way it is. but hey that’s only my choice of words. i will say this. i can see where people would think bob Dylan, chuck berry and maybe even iggy are old acts and past there prime. it may be true. but what i see is maybe my last time to see these acts for a first time and not have to deal with going to a show on there tour but to be at a festival where if i do get bored at least i gave them a try saw a bit but then moved on. hey that’s what you do at a festival. 30,000 plus walk in 30,000 plus different stories walk out

i could never ask for more

84. Well while I thought they would add bands or that there was at least a need to add bands, they currently have only have 1 less artist than last years lineup and more (what would be considered) headlining acts…so unless they’re shortening sets or changing the start and end times for the festival, i don’t see how it’s possible to add many, if any, more…

it’s good thing we’re getting a stimulus check…i’m going to lolla….though still considering v-fest for dance tent, and dance tent alone

85. paramore is sunday now

86. paramore is sunday now

87. Okay, have to admit. Never been to Baltimore. . .does ANYONE know where a decent youth hostel or cheap hotel is for that weekend? I’m really interested in going (need to check off STP from my list before i die), but GoogleEarth doesn’t have any place to crash near any of the bus stops.

88. I stayed at a Motel 6 about 15 min from the site last summer. They have shuttle buses from several subway stops. Made everything very convenient.

89. hey all, I would like to offer some help with anyone looking for places to stay and such. i have lived in baltimore for the past 4 years while I was in college. It is a pretty small city, and pimlico (where the festival is) is right outside the city, a 15 min drive tops. There are many hotels around the Loyola/Johns Hopkins campuses…look for hotels in TOWSON or TIMONIUM. you should be able to get a hotel for 30-40 a night.

trust me, the festival is worth it

90. paramore was by far the worst idea for this festival. taking back sunday is pushing it the way it is, but atleast their music isnt total bubblegum disney pop emo garbage. please give paramore the boot from this festival, please.

91. Paramore was a worse idea than Duffy, KT Tunstall, and wasting a headliner slot on Jack Johnson? I’m not a fan of either but I’ll take the “kid’s table” emo over the adult contemporary any day.

92. So…is there any truth to the rumor that was out there about Muse being added?

93. no clue…but i think at this point its safe to say that muse would be out :(

what do you guys think will be acts on the main stage day 1?

94. It’s a shame there isn’t any Baltimore flavor on this lineup, especially since Rolling Stone was among a couple of outlets that named it the best music scene this year. Pretty significant, no? I mean, Double Dagger, Beach House and Dan Deacon (who did very well at Coachella says Spin) have all found their way into other solid festivals…I wonder if the Virgin folks made any effort on that front. Oh well, still going to Day 2 but there’s no way I’m sitting through a Day 1 with Offspring, Jack Johnson and Paramore. Ugh.

95. was Pendulum dropped? They aren’t on the main festival website now…

Weren’t they one of the first bands confirmed? That’s a shame considering I was only going to go for the Dance Tent.

96. I see that Pendulum is also now confirmed at the Summer Sonic festival in Japan, which would explain their dropping from V-Fest. That festival is seriously raping Virgin Fest and the potential lineup that V-fest could have. Really disappointed in that.

97. you guys can also go ahead and crush the Deerhunter rumor. They are booked for gigs on both days of V-fest.

98. Will Bloc party play earlier in the day? Are they main stage material?

99. I read in the Baltimore Sun both stage will be equal size this year. So I guess you can say both stages will be main stages this year. But I would think Bloc Party would be a midafternoon set (dying to see them; them and Wilco are two of the main reasons I’m going).

100. wow, i thought Aiden was bad last year… whoever’s voting for Hollywood Undead a million times a day needs to stop, the joke’s not funny.. they are possibly the worst artist in history.

101. Anon…true that…we are scientists, for me, may be one of the few shining lights v-fest could have…i blame the contest developers for even choosing such trash to potentially bring to the festival

102. Has anyone seen the competition that V are running?

Off the website- http://music.virgin.com/vpass/

Always fancied being a music journalist? Always fancied travelling the world seeing all the great bands at the big gigs? Now’s your chance.

Report on your local Virgin Festival and you’ll be in with the chance to blog your way around the world and win the one and only Global VPass: VIP passes and travel to a Virgin Festival in every participating country with Virgin Holidays throughout 2009! How’s that for the rock’n’roll lifestyle?!

Baltimore Deadline- 30th July 2008

Holy crap, imagine how much that is worth?!!!

103. i might have to try that blog contest out, thatd be a hell of a 2009.. haha. but yea, its disappointing that both we are scientists + the virgins are the only two good bands for ‘book the band’… hollywood undead would be a waste of a slot

104. Joe Fasolo is real and how dare you!!!!!!!

amazing band

fools!

105. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am 47 and have been out of the concert scene for a while. When will we know what time each band goes on, or is that something we don’t know until the day of? I am going on the the 9th, so what time can we expect Foo and Wilco?

106. JP,

The schedule has yet to be released. When it is, we will surely do a post about it on CoS. I would assume Foo Fighters and Wilco will both headline Day 1, meaning their is a very strong possibility that they play opposite one another. Though I’m not 100% sure on that.

107. any idea on what time the concert will be ending on 8/10. i need to catch a flight.

108. Probably 10ish

109. Well I didn’t think it was possible, but Virgin Fest just got even worse…Hollywood Undead won their Book the Band contest and will be opening the festival on Sunday

110. Found this on some site its not official but it a start

111. its fake. here is why:

- wilco is playing longer than the foos, and the foos are headlining. this makes no sense.

- the dance tent doesn’t make sense at all. 30 minutes between dance acts is absurd. DJ’s don’t need any downtime between transitions at all.

- they forgot to add citizen cope to the schedule. kinda funny actually.

- kanye west is going to close out a stage. NIN and Kanye have the most elaborate stage set-ups, so it just makes sense that they’ll go last. also, do you really think kanye would let someone play after him?

112. Yeah, another vote for this being fake. Aside from all the stuff thats already been said (and the missing “Book the band” shitfest), the talent booker was quoted in a a USA Today article that there would be minimal overlap betweek Kanye, STP, and, NIN. Here’s the quote “I use my kids as a barometer,” Hurwitz says. “They want to see Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots and Kanye West. Even though those bands are pretty much closing the stages that day, we’ve worked it out where you could see all three if you wanted to.”

113. well Seth (the guy you’re quoting) said somewhere else that thats how they schedule it - so you could see almost all of every act there (minus the dance tent acts). its a good way to schedule.

i think even in an interview with probably the same article, he said that Kanye would close out the 2nd stage with Dylan going on before him, which would lead one to assume that STP would be going on before NIN on the main.

114. set times are up on the official site.

yay for 2 hours of Underworld!!

115. Anyone have a two day pass they need to get rid of for less than face? I’m looking to go for dance tent only and haven’t yet been motivated to pay full price for that yet…

116. Anyone know if you can actually meet the bands with a VIP pass?

117. Is it likely this will sell out or can we be pretty sure that we can get tickets at the door?

118. i would be completely surprised if it sold out, so i’m sure tickets will be available…if not at the gate, surely by those trying to get rid of tix

119. to anon at 1:40:

if I remember correctly, the VIP pass can you get backstage access to the dance tent but not the two other stages. Can’t guarantee this though.

120. i can’t beleieve rabbit in the moon are on so early. i know we don’t want them closing but at night like dusk would have been perfect i’m so upset moby and some other guys get that spot over them - shout out loud if you think RITM should have been on the line-up at dusk

Peace

121. Jaaco I totally agree. They should have seriously gotten the Ritchie Hawtin time slot, or even the Moby slot. 2 in the afternoon?!?! Oh well.

122. Does anyone know what the we are allowed to bring to the concert beverage wise? How strict are they about that?

123. you cant blatantly bring in anything. the security check is a joke, its basically just high school kids who let you in and although they say 2 waters is all u get, everyone brought GALLONS on day 2 because it was literally 100 degrees. so, if I were you I would bring a backpack with some snacks, some waters, gatoerades and pass on the booze—get beer inside if you want.

124. anyone have an extra two day pass they need to get rid of? I’m looking to pay $150…
