And we’re back! After our week-long trip to Austin, the CoS news team is ready to return to the non-stop onslaught that is a 24-hour, 7-day a week posting schedule. But before we begin, let us first first take a look at some of the headlines that hit the wire/Twitter while we were gone. You’d think the music industry would prove newsless with every band, publicist, and their mother taking to SXSW 2011, but last week saw everything from the return of The Darkness and new music from Thom Yorke to a new Björk album and the passing of Nate Dogg. Take it all in below; then get ready for what should prove to be another hectic week.

– R.I.P. Nate Dogg

– Justice debuted their first piece of new music since 2007 with the help of Katy Perry.

– “Chillin’”, a track rumored to be off Dr. Dre‘s Detox featuring Swizz Beatz, hit the web.

– Klaxons canceled their upcoming U.S. tour — which included an appearance at Coachella.

What a way to celebrate Labor Day!

Having already completed a massive 5-month US tour, with stops at many of the nation’s summer festivals — Ultra, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, Starscape — the Disco Biscuits have taken some time off for a relaxing summer vacation. Approximately enough time to finalize their own festival and plan an itinerary for their summer-ending road trip.

After headlining all three nights of Camp Bisco next weekend (July 15-17), the foursome will take a month off to rest and prepare for a 15-date Eastern US tour. Following two one-off festival appearances, the tour officially kicks off with a beach party in Dewey Beach, Delaware, and continues with highly anticipated co-headlining dates.

They will arrive in Florida August 28th for their debut Black Water Music Festival set before heading back north to Georgia to kick-off an amazing weekend with jam-brethren STS9. And unlike the rest of the nation, the Disco Biscuits have decided to work through the Labor Day weekend. Beginning with a late-night Friday set at Chi-Town’s Congress Theater, they will then travel to Austin’s Nocturnal Festival for a Saturday night performance, only to return to the Windy City for a headlining appearance at North Coast Music Festival. The tour will wind down through mid-September with performances at State College, Buffalo, Holyoke, and Boston. Dubstep producer MiMOSA will perform opening duties for many of the dates, but expect special guest performances to be announced as the end of summer nears. Something to stay hopeful for as the festival season ends and the long summer days continue to shorten.

But wait, there’s more … much more! Something extremely appetizing will surely be created when the Biscuits join forces with The String Cheese Incident October 29th at the Hampton Coliseum. Tickets to all the summer dates, excluding the Boston and Hampton shows, are currently available at Bisco Tix. Tickets to the Boston show are available here, and Hampton’s tickets will go on sale at Ticketmaster July 18, and probably be sold out later that day. Complete tour dates below.

Oh, and we’d be remiss not to note our interview with the band, which we posted today.

<content:mobile>Having already completed a massive 5-month US tour, with stops at many of the nation's summer festivals -- Ultra, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, Starscape -- the Disco Biscuits have taken some time off for a relaxing summer vacation.

Beginning with a late-night Friday set at Chi-Town's Congress Theater, they will then travel to Austin's Nocturnal Festival for a Saturday night performance, only to return to the Windy City for a headlining appearance at North Coast Music Festival.

But wait, there's more ... much more! Something extremely appetizing will surely be created when the Biscuits join forces with The String Cheese Incident October 29th at the Hampton Coliseum. Tickets to all the summer dates, excluding the Boston and Hampton shows, are currently available at Bisco Tix. Tickets to the Boston show are available here, and Hampton's tickets will go on sale at Ticketmaster July 18, and probably be sold out later that day. Complete tour dates below.

Oh, and we'd be remiss not to note our interview with the band, which we posted today.

A new album? Festival appearances? Disco lives on!

Since forming in 1995, the Disco Biscuits have formed their own path in the musical environment, fusing the stylistic element of jam bands and electronica. The quintet, currently composed of Allen Aucoin (drums), Marc Brownstein (bass), Jon Gutwillig (guitar), and Aron Magner (keyboard), have toured feverishly over the last decade and a half to spread their unique sound to ever-increasing ears, and have created festivals to help the genre grow. With their increasing success, fans were anxiously awaiting their fifth studio release, and the first via Diamond Riggs Records, Planet Anthem.

With an original release date set for February 2nd, fans were hoping to be uplifted by the band’s newest vibes, which have been three years in the making; however, the wait has been extended six more weeks until March 16. Unlike Disco Biscuits’ prior releases, Planet Anthem will feature collaborations with multiple producers, songwriters, and outside musicians, including Don Cheegro and Dirty Harry (Ludacris, Chris Brown, Beanie Sigel). According to a recent press release, the album will be filled with sing along melodies and infectious beats, and include an amalgamation of pop, indie dance, hip hop, and straight up rock music.

The band will be bringing this new sound across the country starting in February, including the much anticipated appearance at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival. The Disco Biscuits will also be hosting two events in the upcoming months, Camp Bisco and the second annual Bisco Inferno. Bisco Inferno will be held May 29th, at the iconic Red Rocks, and tickets are currently on sale here. Pre-sale Tickets are also still available for the ninth installment of Camp Bisco, which will be held mid-July in Mariaville, New York.

This past weekend, the Disco Biscuits held their annual summer extravaganza, Camp Bisco, at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, New York. We’ll let our own Carlos Detres give you the scoop, but let’s just say that by weekend’s end, this year’s festivities proved to be one hell of an event.

Mud, rain, flipped golf carts, pretty hippies, Tooly with his tow truck, and the Disco Biscuits. Those who attended pulled together through some of this season’s worst weather (Coventry, anyone?) and made the best out of the situation. The torrential pour on Friday night did not halt the revelers from watching the Disco Biscuits rock an illuminating set; lasers shot into trees, folks mired in mud –- some with umbrellas and others not –- but all exposed to the music of one of Camp Bisco’s best lineups in its eight year history. This year’s award for best performer goes to the attendees who smiled at some really shitty conditions.

Friday, July 17th

The Disco Biscuits:
Main Stage

Unfortunately, due to the worst rain in recent memory, traffic, and an endless search for a tow truck, only the last few songs of the Disco Biscuits can be reported but these last moments were thrilling. Watching a band play electric instruments through the sideways rain reminds people of rock and roll’s bravado. The crowd gathered tightly around each other during the set, arm and arm and mud and mud. It seemed as if the rain wasn’t a factor and it’s probably due to this year’s rain-laden festival circuit, it just became old news –- an annoyance to get over.

Saturday, July 18th

Telepath:
Main Stage

Telepath dug into its diverse palate of influences to give the audience a fusion fest of music to dance to. Being one of the earliest acts of the day, the band had the responsibility of working the crowd into a small frenzy. Groovy bass accompanied fusion jazz, licking trance-y shores lurched feet from the mud as people dug deeply into the reggae, dub world of Telepath while the band braved the heat in suit and tie.

Synewave:
Tent Stage

But on the other side of the field another band wasn’t so lucky with the crowd. Beneath the tent was a messy sludge that kept people on a narrow patch of plywood and gravel. Synewave played to an enthusiastic bevy of maybe 20 to 30 people but smiling faces they gave to these few. The airy intonations of their music crystallized an image of swimming in murky water while maintaining a fit of elegance on every note. The band was the first of the day to test out the limits of the tent and pulled together a tight set.

Hill Stage

The Indobox performed blaringly well, etching one of the best performances of Saturday, blowing sonic waves of grain into everyone’s faces. This was Indobox’s third appearance at Camp Bisco (they performed at V and VI) and they played as if they wanted to gun for a fourth next year. It was early but they couldn’t wait for the sun to set to bestow to the crowd an amplified grin. The band surprisingly closed its set with a cover of Daft Punk’s “One More Time” while boxes with a pair of faces were thrust into the sky by surrounding fans.

The five-some that is STS9 continued where Break Science left off, pulling a vibrant set. By this time, everyone was tearing apart the mud, flinging it onto themselves while feet picked up in the air from the raucous dance performed by the horde of fans that clamored together in front of the stage. People drifted from the side streets onto the field and cheered on the band through its well executed performance.

Kill The Noise:
Tent Stage

It’s understood that artists are assigned slots based on draw and popularity, however if one were to appropriate sets based on energy then this guy should have been given a better time. After AC Slater’s set, the crowd began to disperse but Kill The Noise’s tech-y, electro-house sound seemed to thrive on adversity. This tent went from having a barely generous gathering of people to filling out the front of the stage and outer rim of the tent -– a difficult feat considering that the mud was at least ankle deep.

Holy Ghost‘s performance good but not great. It was almost as if the Brooklyn outfit was dishing out a warm up set for someone else… just with a bit more energy. Although, the music was fine — at best — it was a let down for the Disco Biscuits’ closing performance at the main stage. <content:mobile>This past weekend, the Disco Biscuits held their annual summer extravaganza, Camp Bisco, at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, New York. We'll let our own Carlos Detres give you the scoop, but let's just say that by weekend's end, this year's festivities proved to be one hell of an event.

Last week, we gave major props to the Disco Biscuits for tapping quite an eclectic group of opener for their upcoming Bisco Inferno celebration at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. So, perhaps it should come as little of a surprise that the Philadelphia rockers went inanely insanely awesome for their annual outdoor music festival, aka Camp Bisco #8.

Of the 45+ performers scheduled to descend on Mariaville, New York from July 16-18, there will be hip-hop (Nas & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley and K’Naan), DJs (Chromeo, The Orb, Special Disco Version, and Shpongle), some ol’ fashioned rock ‘n’ roll (Dr. Dog), and even the weird ass crazy styles of STS9. There will even be some tent action in the form of DFA Records’ Disco Tent and Twisted Records’ All-Star Tent. And of course, your hosts extraordinaire will perform – three times in fact – during the weekend.

All in all the lineup for Camp Bisco 8 looks something like this:

AC Slater, BioDiesel (w/ KJ Sawka), Bluetech, Boombox, Chromeo, Dirty Paris, Disco Biscuits (3 nights), Dr. Dog, EOTO, Flying Lotus, Fort Knox Five, DJ Haitian, Holy Ghost, The Indobox, Joe Nice, John Brown’s Body, K’Naan, Kill the Noise, Martyn, MO2, Nas & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, The Orb, Orchard Lounge, Otherwise, Ott, Phantogram, Pretty Lights, Prometheus, Roots of Creation, Shpongle, Special Disco Version, Starkey, STS9 (2 nights), Telepath, Tuphace, Younger Brother
