When it came about that Dave Grohl was working on a sitcom for FX, we asked if there was anything he can’t do. As if winning five Grammys didn’t prove there in fact isn’t, the recent trailer for his upcoming Sound City documentary seals it. The fact that the Foo Fighters frontman filmed a doc about the famed and now defunct eponymous L.A. recording studio of the title is intriguing, but the list of names contributing to the project is the real kicker.

According the the recently revealed trailer, Grohl has gathered a veritable pantheon of musical icons: Trent Reznor, Joshua Homme, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic, Cheap Trick, Lars Ulrich, Stephen Pearcy, and Rick Springfield are just some of the names involved. So why are so many familiar faces joining Grohl in this endeavor? “That place was like a church,” he explained in a recent interview on Sound City (via CraveOnline). “The list of people that recorded there is like a virtual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We recorded Nevermind there back in 1991. That funky old place had the best drum room in the world. The drum sound at the beginning of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit?’ That’s Sound City.”

The trailer for the movie, which Grohl says is “about that feeling when you put five guys in a room, hit ‘record’ and the hair on the back of your neck stands up,” can be viewed below. No release date is currently available, so stay tuned.

Noise Pop Festival:

The San Francisco based Noise Pop Festival has added several new names to its 2010 bill. Now set to join the previously announced likes of The Magnetic Fields, Atlas Sound, Rogue Wave, and Memory Tapes are Deerhoof, Fences, Princeton, something called The Dodos & Magik Magik Orchestra Collaborative Performance, and none other than the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band. South by Southwest:

Wasting no time to kick off New Year off with a bang, Austin’s always overwhelming South by Southwest has added a series of heavy weights. Cheap Trick, She & Him, Broken Social Scene, Metric, and Cornelius are now all set to showcase at the festival, which is set to take place from March 17-21. Plus, many other acts have already been independently confirmed by CoS, meaning we still have a long ways to go before the complete bill is unveiled. All Tomorrow’s Parties:

When it comes to All Tomorrow’s Parties’ lineups, any news is usually huge news. This is particularly exemplified in the latest lineup additions announced for the Matt Groening-curated portion of All Tomorrow’s Parties 2010. The recently reunited Iggy & The Stooges, Built to Spill, CocoRosie, and Lightning Dust are among the names confirmed to join Panda Bear, Deerhunter, Broadcast, and The Raincoats from May 7-9 in Minehead, UK. And then the weekend after that Pavement takes over. Yeah, totally jealous. Tickets, if there are any, can be had via Seetickets.com.

Coachella Music Festival:

Now for the obligatory Coachella update: Vampire Weekend and Hockey are the newest names to be confirmed for festival, which will be held from April 16-18 in Indio, California. Hot new rumors include Wilco, Soundgarden, Citizen Cope, RX Bandits, jj, and Elvis Costello. All should be revealed by the end of January, and then we can sleep.

Joining them on the entire tour, which officially kicks off on June 23rd in Camden, New Jersey and runs for the better part of two months before ending in early September in San Bernadino, California, will be fellow classic rockers Cheap Trick and Poison. Speaking of the bill in a recent interview with Billboard.com, Elliot noted that touring with karaoke favorites has its advantages:

“We’re going out with three bands, which limits’ the amount of time we can play to about 90 minutes. When you do your greatest hits and some new material or extra stuff you might throw in, you have got to push and shove and clamp down. No big long speeches from moi. You have to do the AC/DC thing and just bang through everything.”

Def Leppard will be touring in support of its tenth studio album, Songs from the Sparkle Lounge, whih was released in April of 2008, as well as upcoming reissues of two classic albums, 1983′s Pyromania and 1992′s Adrenalize. Exact release dates are still forthcoming.

I had no idea what this would sound like, and a name like Tinted Windows lends little to the Imagination. Fortunately, Stereogum has provided this little offering. Feast your eyes on Tinted Windows:

If that monotonous introduction didn’t excite you, then that cheesy pop must have. It’s certainly no “Mmmbop”, that’s for sure. Taylor Hanson simply looks like a Jonas Brother (but then again, maybe the Jonas Brothers copped his style), but at least he can sing. Simply put, Tinted Windows sound like a throwback to a sound that never really caught on to anyone above the age of 13. This is powerpop without the power and too much boybandness to be taken seriously thus far. I’d like to think that somehow this could transform itself into a pleasant surprise, but really after about a 15 second long preview, I’ll have to pass.

If you care to know, Tinted Windows is out April 21st via S-Curve, but before then the band will make their live debut at SXSW’s billboard showcase on March 20th at Austin’s Pangea. Can’t Hardly Wait!
