The rapper’s body found by his mother, who then shared the news via Facebook. The cause of death is not yet known.

A native of Minnesota, Eyedea rose to fame after strong showings at a number of free style rap battles, including the Scribble Jam battle in 1999 and HBO’s Blaze Battle in 2000. He would ultimately sign with label Rhymesayers and formed a partnership with DJ Abilities. Under the moniker Eyedea & Abilities, the duo released three full-length efforts, including 2009′s By the Throat. He also frequently teamed up with high profile MC’s Aesop Rock and Sage Francis.

Declaring their return after a six year hiatus with theFREEhoudini mixtape, the team of rapper Doseone and producer Jel have moved quickly on their third album which is due Oct. 20 through Anticon Records. According to a press release, CrownsDown have crafted a set of tracks that represent the “essential ten commandments of rap.” The album has been heavily influence by classic hip hop artists such as Public Enemy and Gang Starr.
