Yeah, this is going to be crazy.

The electro outfit Ruby Isle has become notorious for its ambitious covers, turning well-known indie tracks from the likes of Bon Iver, The Decemberists, and Animal Collective into dance-floor approved versions. But the band’s next project might just take the cake.

Ruby Isle has spent the last months re-recording Guns N’ Roses’ 1988 LP Appetite for Destruction. And as vocalist Mark Mallman explains, the project quickly evolved from a straightforward electronic adaptation to a “paced-out experiment incorporating both live and electronic instrumentation.”

“In the beginning of recording everything just seemed too obvious,” Mallman explained. “We decided to go into the studio and bring in musicians with diverse musical backgrounds to make this thing a little more interesting.” Among those brought into the studio were jazz quartet, a French female vocalist, a string orchestra, and Sean Na Na, aka Har Mar Superstar. Yeah, this is going to be crazy.

The end result will be unveiled later this month at South by Southwest. A release of the album will follow later this year.
