The first and only time I saw the movie Once, the folksy and surprisingly effective movie starring musicians-turned-actors Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, there was this underlying bad taste in my mouth. Not because of the movie, which was wonderful, but because I could so clearly imagine executives everywhere thinking the words “money stream.” And I figured a tour would happen, I figured Hansard and Irglova would make more music, and I even figured that this would be transformed into a musical.

And now another lovely piece of art will (hopefully not, but probably) be chopped, screwed, and inevitably ruined by the Great White Way. Pop Eater reports that Irish playwright Enda Walsh and Scottish director John Tiffany will tackle the adaptation for the stage which will thankfully use the original music from the movie. It’s doubtful that Hansard and Irglova will reprise their roles.

Sorry for me negativity about this. Maybe it’s because Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark is the turdiest of turds and I really wanted it to be cool. At least Julie Taymore isn’t directing this one.
