In case you haven’t already noticed, we here at CoS love a good festival. We also love great festivals, mediocre festivals, stupendous festivals and even the occasional “meh” (shoulder shrug) festival. In short, festivals are our “thing” and if you are reading this, perhaps they’re your “thing” too. So for you, the die-hard festival fan, or you the StumbleUpon user who has come across our humble site, we are resurrecting our Festivals in Brief feature.

Each week we will compile the latest news regarding festivals (like interviews, recaps, and lineup additions), and squeeze it down into a handy reference that you can tuck into your front shirt pocket.

News:

– The LA rave scene received a blow when festival organizers announced this year’s edition of HARD LA would be canceled.

– The maiden voyage of Nateva Music and Camping Festival went off without a hitch despite being in the upper right hard-to-reach corner of nowhere.

– Almost three months before its set to launch, Austin City Limits shared its 2010 schedule.

– Consequence of Sound is offering free passes to the Lollapalooza and North Coast music festival, but there’s a catch.

– Video of the currently-disbanded Japanese Motors giving an interview at Scion Garage Fest surfaced.

Now a staple in the summer festival circuit, the Denver based Mile High Music Festival will return for its third edition this summer, though the festivities will begin a little later than usual.

This year’s Mile High is set to take place from August 14-15, nearly a month later than the two previous incarnations of the festival. Yet the change seems to have allowed the two-day to round together its biggest bill to date, as the likes of Jack Johnson, My Morning Jacket, Phoenix, Weezer, the legendary Jimmy Cliff, and Mile High’s first ever headliner, Dave Matthews Band, will head this year’s edition.

Other acts of note include Steve Miller Band, Drive-By Truckers, Bassnectar, Train, Atmosphere, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Ozomatli, Railroad Earth, DJ Z-Trip, Keller Williams, and Rusted Root.

In all, more than 40 bands will take to the fields surrounding Dick’s Sporting Goods Park during the August weekend. Additional acts will be announced in the weeks ahead; you can find an up-to-date listing of confirmed acts here.

Two-day passes, currently priced at $150 (they will raise to $175 and then $200 as allotments sell out), will go on sale starting Saturday, April 10th via Tickethorse.com.

Mile High Music Festival will be using iClips.net to provide its virtual view. The broadcast schedule is still forthcoming, but with the likes of Widespread Panic, Tool, The Black Keys, Thievery Corporation and Gogol Bordello set scheduled perform, you’ll probably be able to find something worth watching.

The Mile High Music Festival made quite an impression in its initial go around last year, in fact, so much so, that the Denver, Colorado is not only proudly sporting the honor of being “Denver’s Best New Music Festival,” but also gearing up for its return.

Ok, so maybe the former isn’t something to write home about, but some would argue the latter is. After all, just take one look at this year’s recently unveiled lineup: Tool, two nights of Widespread Panic, The Fray, and Incubus head Mile High ’09, while Ben Harper & Relentless7, Gov’t Mule, The Black Keys, Ani DiFranco, and just about every band starting with the letter “G” make up other acts of note set to appear at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park from July 18-19.

All in all, Mile High’s 2009 lineup looks something like this:
