There's more to Cincinnati than Ochocinco and T.O.

Cincinnati’s Pomegranates are back and set to release their third studio album and first on Afternoon Records, One Of Us, on October 26th. The album was co-produced by the band and TJ Lipple of Aloha (MGMT, Headlights, Minus Story), who also mastered and mixed the album.

In support of the new record, the four-piece of Jacob Merritt, Isaac Karns, Joey Cook, and Dan Lyon will head out on a three-part tour that pretty much covers every corner of the continental United States. The band will start out on September 15th in Cleveland, with Colour Revolt supporting on the first seven dates. Also included in the first round of shows are stops in Grand Rapids, Chicago, and Iowa City before the leg with Colour Revolt winds up in St. Louis on September 23rd.

Round two starts on October 6th in Macon, GA, and sees the Pomegranates play the first of 16 shows slated for October. Stop-offs include Charleston, Charlotte, New Haven, Danbury, and Pittsburgh. There’s also a date at the CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival in New York on October 21st.

Round three kicks off on November 1st at The Empty Bottle in Chicago. This begins the most intense leg of the fall tour, with 22 dates in the span of 24 days. (It’s tiring just writing that!) The final leg of the tour is alongside Oh No Oh My and takes in Denver, Salt Lake City, Spokane, and El Paso among others, culminating in a hometown gig on November 24th at Southgate House.

Since forming in 2006, the Pomegranates have been consistently releasing music and building a loyal fan base. We first saw the Two Eyes EP released a short four months after the Cincinnati indie outfit started practicing and their debut full-length Everything is Alive followed a year later. The quartet made their rounds across the country before they decided to hunker down and record their followup LP, Everybody, Come Outside, which released this past April.

Needless to say, it’s hard to figure out where frontman Joey Cook got the time to think about a side project, let alone bring one to fruition. In between writing Pomegranates songs and touring, Cook teamed up with longtime friend Sophia Cunningham to form Firs. So far, the duo has released a self-titled EP and it’s followup I Will Come Back As A Volcano and come August 18th, the Firs will release their debut full length Man In Space on Lujo Records.

Cook and Cunningham present the nine track effort to us in a narrative format. Man In Space is the telling of a conversation they had with a man they met as they were floating through the desert of the great unknown.

Curious? You should be.

We only need to wait a few more weeks to get our hands on this rather impressive debut LP. In the meantime, the first two tracks off Man In Space are available for listen/download below:
