If you’re old enough to remember the 80′s, start digging out the period regalia now because two of the decade’s new wave staples are gearing up for a joint tour. Although neither outfit has released a new album since 2000, The Psychedelic Furs and The Tom Tom Club have plotted a 15-date trek across the states commencing September 14th in Saratoga, CA. Devo will join the tour for a special one-night performance September 17th just outside of Seattle. Check out the complete list of joint tour dates below.

Survivors of  the late-seventies English punk scene, Psychedielic Furs, made international waves in the mid-eighties with pop hits like “Love My Way” and  “Heartbreak Beat”. But the Furs are probably best known for the John Hughes’ classic Pretty in Pink, one of the most beloved teen flicks of the 80′s – remember Ducky? – where they provided the fittingly titled theme song “Pretty in Pink” to the platinum-selling soundtrack.

Singer Richard Butler, who pranced and wiggled around the stage, worked his mojo as he leaned into the crowd shaking the hands of his adoring fans. A bouquet of roses were tossed onto the stage, and Butler, like a veteran pro, stuck the arrangement into his mic stand before shimmying to the opposite end of the stage while belting out the chorus to “Ghost in You”.

The band delivered the classics, the audience squealed with delight, but I couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic myself. Ducky grew up to be the uptight downer in Two and a Half Men, as The Psychedelic Furs continued to play on.

Even better, tickets to Monday’s show are free of charge. “We wanted to do something really different,” said club co-founder Seth Hurwitz. “We want to be surrounded by people who have made this place special.”

The venue can only hold about 1200 of those people, and members of the club’s online community have the first crack at tickets through a lottery system. Everyone else will have to explore other avenues or show up before doors open at 5 p.m. to fight for the limited number of tickets that are available on a first come, first served basis. From the looks of the lineup, Monday night will surely be an enjoyable trip down memory lane.

D.C. native Henry Rollins will emcee the free show, which features Bob Mould and Ted Leo headlining a 13-act bill that also includes Clutch, The Psychedelic Furs, and The Evens (who are fronted by Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye).

A press release says more artists with roots in the nation’s capital are scheduled to make surprise appearances. While the club’s PR won’t give any more hints, Dave Grohl has been rumored to be one of the possible surprises. Grohl played drums in D.C. hardcore outfit Scream.  UPDATE: Grohl played an acoustic version of “Everlong” and played two Bad Brains covers alongside Scream bandmate Peter Stahl. But, if you can’t wait for Monday to party for free, two Andrew Jacksons will get you into the club for the first night of the celebration. On Sunday, May 30th, Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine will take the stage and play lounge versions of songs from artists that have graced the 9:30 Club’s stage.

The list of songs could go on and on, but hearing a Bublé-esque version of Fugazi’s “Promises” or The Beastie Boys’ “Paul Revere” just might be worth the 40 dollar ticket price. Here’s a lineup for this weekend’s shows:

Co-founders Richard and Tim Butler will start off the trek on May 27th in Orlando before moving their way up the East Coast. After a stop in Toronto, the band will make its way towards the Pacific and finish up by looping back for three dates in Texas. The last show is scheduled for July 2nd in Houston. While two of the three co-founders are still around, there’s no word on whether John Ashton will make an appearance.

For those of you wondering if this touring is a build-up to the first new Furs album since 1991′s World Outside, your guess is as good as ours. The band has no official website to speak of, making information severely limited.

Still, we do know tickets for the upcoming dates will be available starting Saturday, March 27th via Ticketmaster.com.

While the Furs haven’t released an album of new material since 1991′s World Outside, hardly anyone’s complaining. What’s there to gripe about when the band lugs around a back catalog of dazzling, melancholic New Wave? Rhetorical question, folks. This fall, the band, which features original members Tim and Richard Butler and John Ashton, hits up a handful of theaters and clubs, all in the name of glorified ’80s nostalgia. Tagging along is UK dance sensation Happy Mondays, though wouldn’t it have been surreal if The Handsome Furs came on-board, instead?

It all starts in Chicago (thank you) and packs up in Canada. Keep those fingers crossed though, however, as the word on the street is…The Furs may be prepping some new material. One can only hope. Until then, see ya on the freeway, boys n’ girls.
