Last night, the E Street Band suffered a major loss, as longtime keyboardist and organist, Danny Federici, passed away. While always on stage, ripping the floor away and entertaining the thousands of fans each night, Federici had also been battling melanoma for the past three years. His struggle had him take a leave of absence last November, at the height of the band’s tour. Though last month, he did manage to hit the stage again for a few shows in Indianapolis, before his final bow, last night in New York. He was 58.
Bruce Springsteen issued the following statement regarding Federici’s passing:
“Danny and I worked together for 40 years – he was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much…we grew up together.”
Fans will soon be able to donate to the Danny Federici Melanoma Fund in honor of the longtime E Street Band member. Visit the official website for more information.
As life long E Street fans, Consequence of Sound will always remember you.
