Update: Venues for U.S. tour dates have been announced. Scroll down…

Oh boy, us Americans are in for a treat. One of New Wave’s most influential and important acts is heading here from overseas to deliver some of the best synth-pop that’s ever been conceived. Cat got your tongue? Well, let me spell it out for you: D-E-P-E-C-H-E-M-O-D-E. Depeche Mode. Yes, yes, yes, the English trio is back with new tunes, a new act, and one hell of a tour that’s going to impress just about everyone in just about every city, town, country or continent.

Let that sink in for a moment. Go grab yourself a Fresca, and then come back to hear more…

In support of their twelfth studio album, Sounds of the Universe, Depeche Mode will be embarking on its most ambitious tour since their 1994 Exotic Tour. Titled Tour of the Universe, this new, globe spanning picture 34 Update: Depeche Mode tours the universe...and Lolla?adventure will be the group’s first-ever stadium tour, which is a fitting venture considering they’ll be performing in over fifty cities across Europe and the U.S..

While the festivities don’t start until May, the band will be busy with promotion and radio work for Universe, scheduled for release on April 20th (Europe) and April 21st (United States). However, this tour announcement comes just in time, as they’ll be debuting the album’s first single, “Wrong”, at the Echo Awards television show in Germany on February 21st. But wait, don’t lose your marbles just yet. The rest of you will get your fix on the radio shortly after, starting February 23rd. Naturally, it’ll leak online beforehand, anyhow, and for those video enthusiasts, look for a video directed by Patrick Daughters (of Yeah Yeah Yeah’s & Feist fame), too.

Now, looking at the dates, there is one interesting thing to note. Where’s Chicago? Well, if you look below, you’ll see there’s a wide open gap 08/03 and 08/10, which just so happens to fit in Lollapalooza. Don’t put it in your calendars with a Sharpie marker just yet, but definitely pencil in these folks for the spectacular three day weekend. Headliner? Oh, you bet your ass.

While the first five dates are currently on sale, the remainder of the tour goes on the market March 13th. You can probably expect specific details, such as venue locations, to pop up within the next week or so. For now, you can hype yourself up, starting with the killer performance below…
