Now you too can be a DJ Hero!

on March 23, 2009, 1:00pm

Tired of the hammer-ons and pull-offs? Five starring “Freebird” not doing it for you anymore? Don’t fret, you’ll soon be able to engage in a new form of virtual musicianship.

While rumors DJ Hero, the latest virtual music playing counterpart to Guitar Hero and Rock Band have been floating, news of the game has remained rather hush hush. Well, that was until last week when Activision, the company behind the game, offered up a series of not so subtle surprises. For one, Metallica’s not-so-secret show on Friday night, DJ Shadow took the stage and reportedly performed behind a banner reading “DJ Hero.” Then, there’s the recently launched DJHero.com and Twitter. However, neither DJ Shadow’s performance, nor the new website offered much in the way of hints, or even a release date for that matter.

Fortunately, there is such a thing as the Internet, which always seems to come in handy with these type of things. According to The Daily Swarm, the game is expected to hit shelves in June with Activision planning to ship 1.5 million units at that time. As for who you’ll be able to play as? Citing a source close to the game, Swarm says both Z-Trip and DJ Shadow had a role in the developing and testing the game’s controller as well as programming and licensing the music and consequently, will appear as avatars.

No word on whether ecstasy or mash-ups will be included…
