Gov’t Mule readies new album for upcoming non-festival whoring summer tour

on May 26, 2009, 10:45am

It’s hard to imagine the gentlemen of Gov’t Mule have any extra free time on there hands these days, what with all the work that entails ridding one’s “festival whore” status. But the southern jammers apparently found enough to allow for the creation of a brand new studio album.

Entitled By A Thread and due for release on July 28th, Gov’t Mule’s eight full-length endeavor is the result of some recording time at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in Texas earlier this summer. The trip reportedly went well beyond just recording, with many of the album’s 11 tracks said to be inspired by the setting surrounding ol’ Willie’s studio – for example, track #1, “Broke Down On The Brazos” is named after a nearby river, and features a “deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and the trademark guitar-work of ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons.”

Those who pre-order the album via mule.net will receive an exclusive digital download of live Gov’t Mule recordings. These recordings, entitled Mule Tracks Presents: The Soundchecks, will be made during rehearsals and the first few soundchecks from the band’s upcoming tour.
