ODB gets documented and tributed…

on May 05, 2009, 11:30am

Wu Tang Clan founding member Ol’ Dirty Bastard may have passed away in 2004, but thanks to the upcoming release of a new documentary and several tribute albums, ODB’s legacy will continue to live on.

The first of the albums – key word: albums, All in Together Now Raw: A Tribute to Ol’ Dirty Bastard, will hit record stores beginning today. Produced by Raison Allah, of Wu Tang affiliated rap group, Brooklyn Zu, the ten-track compilation will look to remember ODB with works from fellow Wu Tang Clan members the RZA and Masta Killa, as well as Killarmy and 4th Disciple.

In the months that follow, more tribute albums will be released. In fact, a new one will be offered up every-other month until the release of…

…a brand new documentary entitled Dirty: One Word Can Change the World will be released on DVD. In production since 2006 and due for release in November, the effort will focus on the rapper’s Brooklyn roots and highlight some of the more notable moments in the rapper’s career, while incorporating interviews with Ol’ Dirty’s family and friends, and with a 13-year-old girl who was saved from a car crash by ODB when she was a toddler.

Speaking of the projects, Allah had the following to say:

“Years ago I promised to keep Dirty’s legacy alive, so we formed Zu Films and starting filming a documentary which tells his life story. But with all the footage and interviews, I still felt like something was missing; Dirty was all about the music.

For our family, Dirt is very much alive…He was more than an entertainer, he was my blood and we miss him! I know the tribute album and documentary would have touched his heart.”

Based on first impressions, he certainly seems to be doing a good job.
