The following artists will be dropping new releases in the coming months…

Headlights:

On October 6th, the pride and joy of Campaign, Illinois, Headlights, will unveil what is billed as the band’s “most arresting music yet” with the release of Wildlife. The 11-track effort is the result of a few tumultuous months for the Headlines, ones which saw failed recording sessions and the departure of guitarist John Owen. “We had been so distracted by the issues that were going on internally, that we stopped thinking about what we were writing, what exactly we were doing, what we were saying, and all the questions you should be asking,” Fein explains.

The group finally figured things out and recorded an album that seeks to consolidate the its acclaimed song into something “more nuanced and confidential.” “For the first time this is a significantly personal record for us, and for very real reasons like growing up and people dying that you love,” Wraight goes on to note. As a result, expect one emotionally packed and complex album.

Thao with The Get Down Stay Down:

Hope to avoid that dreaded sophomore slump following the release of 2008’s uber successful We Brave Bee Stings and All, Thao with The Get Down Stay Down recently hit the studio with super producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Bill Frisell, Jim James) and guests Andrew Bird, Blitzen Trapper’s Eric Earley, Laura Veirs, Horse Feathers’ Nathan Crockett, and tUnE-YaRdS. The end result is Know Better Learn Faster, a 13-track effort that spans all genres and influences, “all the while staying faithful to their distinct style, sharp wit, and the infectious and enamoring exuberance of their renowned live shows.” Sound intriguing? Pick it up beginning October 13th via Kill Rock Stars.

Themselves:

Eight months after reuniting and seven months after releasing a free mixtape, theFREEhoudini, Oakland’s Themselves will unveil their first proper studio album in seven years. Entitled CrownsDown, the 10-track effort will hit record stores on October 20th via anticon. According to an issued press release, the album is a “return to form and a honing of what’s come before” that sees the hip-hop duo of Doseone and Jel holding nothing back, “welding brute skill to a concrete set of tracks that represents an essential ten commandments of rap.” While you’re waiting, theFREEhoudini is still available for download via anticon.com.
