Beatles coming to iTunes? “Yes” says Yoko

on September 08, 2009, 11:10pm

On the eve of both The Beatles’ big day and Apple’s next great event, rumors are starting to heat up that the two powers may finally be joining forces. And you can thank Yoko Ono for it.

As MSNBC reports, Ono apparently confirmed that The Beatles’ catalog will soon be making its way on iTunes in a recent interview with Britain’s Sky News. The interview has since been removed from Sky New’s website, but as you’ll see by the cache, the words are crystal clear: “The whole of the Beatles back catalog will be made available to buy on iTunes, Yoko Ono has told Sky News.”

According to anonymous Sky News employee (via 9to5Mac.com), the news service was told to “cut the story out immediately and not to comment. Directive came ‘from the very top.”

Of course, all this comes on the heels of a string of recent rumors that an iTunes Beatles union is imminent… possibly to take place as soon as tomorrow at Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event.

However, the band’s label, EMI, discounted the idea of an announcement anytime soon.

“Conversations between Apple and EMI are ongoing and we look forward to the day when we can make the music available digitally. But it’s not tomorrow,” Ernesto Schmitt, EMI’s global catalog president, told the Financial Times.

Either way, it does appear The Beatles will be coming to iTunes sooner rather than later. Hell, even Paul wants it to happen! We’ll find out for sure if tomorrow is that day, well, tomorrow.
