Update: According to Billboard, Yorke is considering some dates before the end of the year for live performances in support of the music — potentially his first with a band other than Radiohead — but details remain unconfirmed.
Last week, we told you about the upcoming release of surprise, limited edition 12″ that would feature two brand new songs from Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke. Today, the frontman not only confirmed the news, but provided some details.
As expected, the release will include “The Hollow Earth” and “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses”, the latter of which has been passed around and labeled as an early version of “Reckoner” for years. The song has been performed in the past (see below), but since the tune has taken on a new title, its chorus seems to have shifted from Yorke yelling “Reckoner!” to some other duly yelped Yorkeisms. While they will both be offered under the Thom Yorke name, the Radiohead frontman noted that he did have quite a bit of help, writing, “these days its all getting kind of blurry.”
As Yorke goes on to explain, “‘The Hollow Earth’ is a bass menace that was born out of the Eraser period but needed a little more time,” while ‘Apart by Horses’ is written & played by Jonny [Greenwood] and I and is a radical rework of an old tune thats been kicking around without a home since 2001? I think.” Makes sense with the whole “early Reckoner” thing.
The release will be available as the aforementioned 12″, with sliced sleeve by Stanley and Tchock, beginning September 21st via waste. And just in case you aren’t into vinyl, Yorke will also do the “normal download thing” come October 6th. In other words, if you want, you’ll be able to get it.
