Friendly Fires plot new album for next spring

on November 04, 2009, 9:05am

Dance rockers Friendly Fires have started working on their second album, the followup to their 2008 self-titled debut, and hope to have it out by May 2010. The band plans to record the album after New Year’s and have it in stores in time for the summer festivals.

The news comes from a recent interview with BBC 6. Says Ed MacFarlane, frontman of the Mercury Prize-nominated band: “We have about four tracks done already, which is really good because we only came off the road about a month ago, so we’re really pleased with the way it’s panning out.”

When asked how they plan to follow-up their critically-acclaimed debut, MacFarlane continued, “I don’t think we’re trying to think about writing pop hits, because I think as soon as you do that, you’re missing the point a little bit, and you’ll end up writing really bad songs. So we’re just writing whatever comes naturally.”

You can probably get an early preview at any of the band’s upcoming tour dates, which includes stops in both the U.K. and U.S.
