Since splitting with the Smashing Pumpkins for the second time earlier this year, Jimmy Chamberlin left fans wondering what his next music project would be. At a free drum clinic in Wisconsin this past Thursday we got our answer, as the drummer announced a new “progressive, symphonic pop” band called This.
Not many other facts have been released about This but we do know the band plans to head to the studio in January. According to TwentyFourBit, a reader of the pro-Pumpkins website Hipsters United who attended the event said that This will be recording with producer Roy Thomas Baker. Baker is well-known for working on a large number of Queen albums as well the Smashing Pumpkins’ Zeitgeist.
As for who else might be involved in This (pardon the pun!)? Chamberlin recently told radio station WPGU, Ive been working with this singer-songwriter from D.C. named Mike Reina (The Jackfields). And, um, weve written about probably twelve to fifteen new songs. So, that might one person.
Either way, it’s good to finally see that Chamberlin is working on some new material with another songwriter. Unlike some other Smashing Pumpkins’ members we could mention.
