Sigur Rós has no plans for 2010

on January 27, 2010, 12:30pm

Following in the footsteps of The Killers, Blitzen Trapper, Bon Iver, and TV on the Radio, the Icelandic post-rock outfit Sigur Rós is the latest high-profile indie outfit to use the “b” word.

As revealed by frontman Jonsi Birgisson in a recent interview with Spinner, Sigur Rós is currently on a indefinite break and will not release a new album in 2010, despite previous comments to the contary.

“We haven’t got another [Sigur Rós] album ready. It was just a rumour. We started to record something, but then we chucked it all away. So I think we are going to have to start it all again,” Jonsi explained. Instead, as he went on to note, the band is now taking it slow.

“Yes we are on a break at the moment. Everybody in the band is having babies.”

On a plus note, Jonsi does have his solo debut, Go, out on March 22nd. What’s more, he’ll be appearing at this year’s Coachella Music Festival. So, hey, that’s something… to help ease the pain of what you just read.
