Javelin announces debut album and tour

on February 12, 2010, 5:00pm

Brooklyn-based party-starters Javelin have generated a lot of buzz for themselves. In addition to selling out a limited pressing of Thrill Jockey 12-inch vinyls (Javelin, Number Two), the two cousins, Tom van Buskirk and George Langford, somehow snagged a prime opening slot by dragging their 20-boom-box-strong soundsystem on the road with Mos Def. The real twist? They haven’t even released their debut yet! Now, if that’s not a great lead in, then we’re all ears.

Set for release on April 20th (via David Byrne’s Luaka Bop Records), Javelin’s first LP, No Mas, encompasses 45 minutes of floor-thumping beats, illustrating the duo’s ability to successfully transmit every genre known to man, “bouncing between samplers and strings, drum machines and drum sets, and a growing collection of guitars, horns and homemade thumb pianos.” However, don’t confuse the band’s beat-matching with the likes of Girl Talk; these cousins have painstakingly created the vast majority of the sounds through their own multi-instrumental skills.

To help promote its release, and following its UK tour with Yeasayer, Javelin will be making tour stops across North America from February through April. The tour will conclude with several stops in the US and Canada, including Lincoln, Iowa City, Detroit, Bloomington, and Montreal.

Below you’ll find the complete track listing and the awesomely fitting album art.
