Kyle Gass climbs aboard Trainwreck

on February 24, 2010, 9:05am

The rage that is Kyle Gass has taken a step aside from The Greatest Band on Earth to shred acoustic with a new group. They are not a tribute. You’ve gotta believe me.

Behold, Trainwreck, a band which describes itself as a “cornucopia of rock and a five-headed hydra of pleasure,” which makes sense — after all, Kyle was the D’s French tickler. The band features of a colorful mix of characters like Boy Johnny, Dallas St. Bernard, and John Bartholomew Shredman playing (guess what) electric guitar. Then, there’s “Klip Calhoun” (aka Kyle Gass) and notable lead singer Jason Reed, aka Darryl Donald, aka (We’re talkin’ fucking) Lee.

If this act sounds a little familiar, Trainwreck has, for the most part, been flying just a tad above the radar since 2002. Though it only released an EP and a live album, the band has headlined shows in the US, Canada, the UK, and even Australia, in addition to supporting bands like Reverend Horton Heat, Vida Blue (featuring Page from Phish), and Blues Traveler. They’ve also made some TV appearances on both The Jimmy Kimmel Show and Current TV.

This year, however, Trainwreck returns with its first full-length album. Titled The Wreckoning, the new studio effort is currently available here with a large-scale release scheduled for March 2nd. Some track title highlights include “El Mustachio”, “Milk The Cobra”, and “Brodeo”, the bands manthem that packs more brorics than a Barney Stinson lecture at a frat house. “Keep your ear-fannies wide and your butt-flaps wider because we’re about to ram this train into places you didn’t know it could go. Prepareth yourselves,” pleads axe man Shredman.

Rage Cage will be taking his hot mess of a southern boogie band on the road, ripping apart honky tonks across the country. To find out where Trainwreck can melt your face check out the tour dates below.
