The 88 to tour with The Kinks’ Ray Davies

on February 17, 2010, 3:30pm

Since forming in LA in 2002, The 88 are secretly taking over your airwaves. While the band has released three albums: Kind of LightOver and Over, and Not Only…But Also, plus a digital collection This Must Be Love, the four-piece may be better known best known for their songs being strewn through pop culture. They perform the theme for NBC’s Community, and have had songs featured in You Me and Dupree, Grey’s AnatomyHow I Met Your Mother, and ads for Sears and Target. The group has also made numerous late-night appearance; playing for Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel and Carson Daly. The 88 are even taking over your phone; head here to see how they recorded “Love is the Thing” entirely on an iPhone.

Anyhow, now that The 88 have put their stamp across the pop stratosphere, they are headed back in time to tour with The Kinks. Well, not really. Instead, they will be the back-up band for the upcoming solo tour by The Kinks’ singer and songwriter Ray Davies. Davies is touring to promote the 2009 release of The Kings Choral Collection. Before closing the night out with The 88, fans can expect Davies to play several Kinks’ hits including “You Really Got Me”, “All Day And All Of The Night” and “Waterloo Sunset”.

What may seem like an odd collaboration, The 88’s blend of ’70s influenced approach fused with British invasion melodies will (hopefully) create a beautiful collision with Davies’ classic approach. Tickets to this rare Davies’ tour are available via Ticketmaster, and a list of dates is provided below.
